outfit post: recent shopping purchases - january

I've had a bit of fun shopping over the past month and this post is a rundown of things that I bought:

1.  Blue ("lapis") Shirt Dress -
Picked this dress up as a work dress option to wear with my new black fleece tights during chilly months. But I think the dusky blue color will look great in spring as well. Ended up wearing it (and loving it) for leading a client workshop in Ohio last week.
2. Windowpane Blouse
I love the windowpane print but don't own anything that has it. Finally pulled the trigger and picked one up from Old Navy.
3. Black Leggings & Fleece Tights
I bought both black leggings (almost pants) and fleece tights (winter dress warmth layers) this month. I'm loving wearing the leggings with big sweaters and boyfriend cardigans. And the tights were lovely and warm for my 23-degrees-outside work trip to Ohio. (Only thing with the tights is I was borderline between sizes and I went up - and during the day they sorta slid down in the crotch area. Think I need to get the smaller size so they fit properly.)
4. Cowl Neck Sweater
Picked this sweater up on a whim at Target. So cozy. Didn't realize I had a closet-gap of tunic length sweaters until I bought these leggings and needed to cover my behind. Feels like I'm wearing pjs which is basically my goal in life for getting dressed.
5. Double Pendant Necklace
Pretty necklace with purple & pale pink stones from Loft. Fun pretty necklace for work outfits.
6. Navy Work Pants
Needed some basic workhorse pants for all my travel over this month and next for my job. While I can technically fit into my pre-pregnancy sized pants they are still a bit snug. So I got a pair one size up (Marisa fit from Loft) so I can feel totally comfortable and confident in all my meetings
7. Purple Tank
Cute basic top to layer under cardigans for work and hopefully on its own this summer.
8. Burgundy Sheath Dress
I bought a version of this dress over the summer and I wore it a ton. So when I saw it in fall/winter colors on sale I decided to buy a second dress. I love the pattern and the mix of colors provides a ton of cardigan options! When you love something go with it!
9. Cableknit Cape
I am loving wearing this fun sweater poncho/cape I bought a month ago. It is amazing. It's like a Christmas miracle. It seems impossible that I'm allowed wear a blanket in public that hides my holiday chub AND still look presentable let alone trendy and cute! Love.

outfit posts: red cardigan, white camisole, navy pants, brown mary janes

Inspiration - Ann Taylor

Florida weather is nutty. High of 35 degrees one day and high of 70 degrees next. Or even more common - leave for work and it's 30 but then it's 75 by lunch. Layers layers layers!

Just finished packing for my Ohio work trip. It was super nice to pack my carry-on without a pile of diapers and bottles. So much room for MY stuff! I'm going to try my best to take hotel/work bathroom pictures of my outfits to share next week. :)

year in review - outfit posts: black riding boot - 17 ways

As part of my annual year end wrap up, I have gathered together some of my favorite & most worn pieces of clothing from 2015 plus a few favorites from the blogging archives. I think it's interesting & fun to to see all the different ways I wore the same thing. Hope you enjoy the look back too!

This post could alternately be called, "What I wear when I'm cold." I pull out my non-ankle higher-rise boots and warm socks (warm socks are so important) when the weather is going to stay below freezing. My black boots seem passably professional to me when I know I'm going to be cold all day and don't want to attempt swapping to flats or heels at my desk.

outfit post: white drapey cardigan, embroidered flutter sleeved blouse, black dress pants

Inspiration - Limited Scandal Collection

Olivia Pope style forever! Love everything about this Scandal inspired outfit inspiration from the Limited. Before I tried my version on I thought I might look a little overwhelmed in fabric with the ultra long cardigan with the wider legged pant - but instead I feel like it visually stretches me out and I look taller then usual. Yay for height!

outfit post: green military jacket, striped shirt, skinny jeans, ankle boots

Inspiration - Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

This is my weekend uniform. Striped shirt, green jacket and ankle boots. Great for running errands, running around the park and meeting friends for lunch. (I had to put on my winter coat over the top in the morning but it was a lovely 60 by mid-day.) Love me my comfy basics.

Almost identical outfit last month - here.

year in review - outfit posts: polka-dot blouse - 17 ways

As part of my annual year end wrap up, I have gathered together some of my favorite & most worn pieces of clothing from 2015 plus a few favorites from the blogging archives. I think it's interesting & fun to to see all the different ways I wore the same thing. Hope you enjoy the look back too!

I'm totally in love with polka-dot blouses. These two (sleeved & sleeveless) are my absolute favorite. I feel like it gives all my normal basic work clothes just the right amount of fun and happiness. Forever a closet favorite.

outfit post: brown leather jacket, cream cable knit sweater, navy a-line skirt, brown high heeled boots

Inspiration - Massimo Dutti

Ummm ok... so this photo isn't me. It's a leftover photo from last year when I had my friend substitute as a clothing model for my clothes/outfits when I was really preggers. I have a folder with a few straggling photos I took of her that never made it to the blog. My thought was to re-take this photo wearing the clothes myself but between busy work and traveling to and from Memphis this past week - I haven't had a chance to take any pictures. So I figured a cute outfit of someone else was better then no outfit post at all!

Sometimes winter weather outfits can get dull your basic warm pants, a sweater and a coat. Over and over. I love this outfit because it's unexpected, cute and still warm. Lots of layers plus interesting textures, colors and silhouette. Winter win!

FITNESS FRIDAY - Week 3 Update

1. Exercise Plan - (Goal: 6x a week)
Because I was traveling 5 days this week with a toddler I decided to just focus on getting steps and keeping myself moving. Did pretty well and had above 10K steps 4/7 days which I think that was a decent result.
  • Friday - No workout. Worked all day then traveled to Memphis with Skylar to visit my bestie & her family (she has two cute daughters).
  • Saturday -  Two long walks to nearby park in 30 degree weather with the kids. Plus climbing on playground & loop around lake at the park. Lots of steps.
  • Sunday - Rest day.
  • Monday - 5 mile speed walk in 23 degree weather!
  • Tuesday - Work and dinner and kids. Not a ton of steps.
  • Wednesday - Flew home after work. Hour long delays at each leg of journey = strollering around the airport while we waited instead of sitting and lots and lots of steps.
  • Thursday - Two coffee walks at work plus long walk with Skylar & dog in the evening. Lots of steps.
2. Food Plan - (Goal: track all food)
Successful food tracking week. Plus bestie is an amazing cook. So she made delicious healthy food for us breakfast, lunch & dinner for the whole visit. It was wonderful. It made eating well so easy and enjoyable - hmmm I need a personal chef!

3. Weekly Weigh-In - (Goal: 13.6 lbs. to get back to pre-pregnancy weight)
Down 1.2 from last week. Pretty good for traveling and a less regimented workout week.
  • Weight change this week: 1.2 (loss)
  • Weight loss to date: -3.8 lbs
  • Goal Remain: 9.8 lbs to go.

year in review - outfit posts: jean jacket - 14 ways & 23 ways

As part of my annual year end wrap up, I have gathered together some of my favorite & most worn pieces of clothing from 2015 plus a few favorites from the blogging archives. I think it's interesting & fun to to see all the different ways I wore the same thing. Hope you enjoy the look back too!

In my book jean jackets are a fundamental closet 'must have' basic. They are wonderful because they never go out of style, they work for all body types and they work with everything else in your closet. I have worn mine with everything from dresses to skirts to pants. Truly a wardrobe staple.

year in review - outfit posts: striped pencil skirt - 11 ways

As part of my annual year end wrap up, I have gathered together some of my favorite & most worn pieces of clothing from 2015 plus a few favorites from the blogging archives. I think it's interesting & fun to to see all the different ways I wore the same thing. Hope you enjoy the look back too!

This skirt was a impulse buy at Old Navy two years ago. I already had a navy polka-dot pencil skirt in my closet so I thought I had my "navy patterned pencil skirt" category covered. But I randomly gabbed it to try on and ended up loving it. Unlike my structured navy pencil skirt - this skirt is soft and stretchy. It's basically like wearing a tube sock. A very cute & flattering tube sock. Because of the soft stretchy fabric it seems a lot more casual to me then my other work pencil skirt. I usually think of pencil skirts as exclusively work-wear so I think the real bonus of this purchase was adding a casual pencil skirt option to my closet. (It made my favorites list last year too!)

outfit post: january shopping wishlist

Just playing around online window shopping...

1. Mustard blouse - Pretty silhouette and love the color. Always on the lookout for good work blouses.
2. Fair Isle sweater - Love the pretty colors and cute print.
3. Pale pink shirt - I've been seeing a lot of pale pink everywhere. A flattering relaxed fit one would be a fun & versatile way to introduce the color.
4. Camel coat - Very Olivia Pope. 'Nuf said.
5. Plaid scarf - I've been wearing my colorful blanket scarf everyday and have gotten so many compliments on it. I am not thinking I should get a more neutral print scarf to alternate with.
6. Grey sweater- This looks so cozy! I want to put this on and spend the weekend lazing around the house watching a tv marathon of some sort. (For some reason I doubt my almost 1 year old will support this idea.)
7. Windowpane blouse - I love the windowpane print but don't own anything that has it. I feel like I'm finally going wait and wait and wait to get something like this blouse and then two minutes after I buy it goes out of style.
8. Shift dress - I have so many summer dresses but not that many winter ones. This seems like a really cute option.
9. Sheath dress - Love this for work.
10. Trench coat - Affordable option instead of my dream Burberry trench.
11. Wrap blouse - Another possible good work blouse.
12. Plaid shirt dress -  Ditto to above in possible cute winter-ish dress.

outfit post: cream boyfriend cardigan, white tank, skinny jeans, ankle boots

Inspiration - Emma Stone

Wore this outfit last weekend. It was my husband's birthday so we got a babysitter (my brother home for the holidays from Australia) and went to see Star Wars and then watch some football at a restaurant/bar. Easy casual date night.

Looking at the calendar it's about to get extra really busy around these parts!
  • Today - Flying to Tennessee with Skylar to visit my bestie for 5 days! (Working remotely from her evil genius lair university professor office.)
  • January 21st - Skylar turns 1! Easy family dinner at our house.
  • Week of January 25th - Fly to Ohio for client workshop
  • Week of February 1st - Fly to Texas for work conference
  • Week of February 8th - Going skiing in Breckenridge for six days with hubby & 5 other couples. (2nd time ever going skiing and first time ever going on a group vacation!)
  • Weekend of February 20th - Big Junior League event that I've been working on all year.
Phew. Little tired just typing all that out! Going to try my best to take pictures of all the outfits I pack for each trip and queue them up into posts so that this blog doesn't go totally dark for a month. Fingers crossed! :)

FITNESS FRIDAY - Week 2 Update

1. Exercise Plan - (Goal: 6x a week)
Not a great second week. Started out strong on Sunday but then the little human came down with an ear infection which meant very little sleep for either of us. And my ability to function in my normal life and my motivation to add an hour of exercise to my day both fell apart. Poor little girl. Feel so bad for her when she's hurting.
  • Sunday - Great workout at the stadium. Really pushed myself and felt great.
  • Monday - No sleep. Dead tired.
  • Tuesday - Tired plus long day at work & Junior League meeting in the evening.
  • Wednesday -Tired.
  • Thursday - Elliptical at the gym.
  • Friday - Will be traveling to Memphis after work. Don't have enough sleep to get up at 5:00 AM to squeeze workout in before work. Going to try to be really active and eat yummy healthy food while with bestie.
2. Food Plan - (Goal: track all food)
Successful food tracking week. Every thing that went in my mouth got tracked into myFitnessPal. Managed to stay on track with food even though takeout would have been lovely a few nights when I was exhausted.

3. Weekly Weigh-In - (Goal: 13.6 lbs. to get back to pre-pregnancy weight)
Went up 1.6 lbs. Seems about right for the lack of sleep and amount of effort I put in.
  • Weight change this week: +1.6 (gain)
  • Weight loss to date: -2.6
  • Goal Remain: 12 lbs to go.
I know that have less control over my time & sleep with the unexpected happenings of a baby around.  So I will just have to accept that this (or a huge project at work or something else of similar importance) might derail my efforts occasionally. All I can do with a less then successful week like this is dust myself off and try again next week.

year in review - outfit posts: white blazer - 7 ways

As part of my annual year end wrap up, I have gathered together some of my favorite & most worn pieces of clothing from 2015 plus a few favorites from the blogging archives. I think it's interesting & fun to to see all the different ways I wore the same thing. Hope you enjoy the look back too!

I stretched my typical wardrobe comfort level with the purchase of this blazer from H&M this year. My concern with the purchase was that I have always felt too 80s fabulous in super white blazers. When I saw it in person it was a little more ivory then bright white and it helped me a lot mentally to not feel Miami Vice. I ended up wearing it quite a bit and look forward to trying out a bunch more outfits this summer!

outfit post: burgundy cardigan, white lace shirt, black a-line skirt, black booties

Inspiration - Loft

It is so chilly this week in Florida! We've been getting into the 20s at night and highs in the 50s. Basically arctic conditions for this area. I liked this outfit from a few weeks ago so much that I decided to wear something really similar but with tights and booties to make it warmer.

outfit posts: november & december outfits

I really like it when fashion bloggers do a monthly recap of all their outfits in a single post. That way when I can easily scroll and see everything they wore without paging back a million times.

So in addition to updating my seasonal archives (see all archive links at very bottom of this post) I was thinking I'd also occasionally post the group of outfits I wore in a month as a main page post.

Cool idea? Annoying? Thoughts?
