outfit post: burgundy cardigan, white cami, black pencil skirt, black wedges

Inspiration - Gucci via Net-a-Porter

I spoke too soon about this being a quiet week. Ended up at my desk today super busy for almost 12 hours straight with maybe a ten minute break to shove some food in my mouth. One of those days where you're trying to do two things at once while thinking about the third thing you'll do next and then you look at the clock and three hours just disappeared... phew!

This is one of my favoritest outfits. It's super simple (possibly borderline plain) but sometimes subdued and sophisticated are exactly what I want. Loves it.

outfit post maternity: blue knit dress, yellow cardigan, brown wedge sandals

    (22 weeks)
    Inspiration - Jennifer Garner

Last week was one of those weeks where time just got away from me. I was jet lagged coming back from Germany (accidentally waking up at 3 am all week - oopsie), work was really busy and then a pile of regular life stuff needed attention -- posting outfits didn't make the priority cut. (Hmmm if I think I'm busy & sleep deprived now... what in the world is going to happen once there's a mini human at the top of the time-suck list? Eep!)

This week is looking a lot better time-wise on every front! I've even taken about 2/3 of the photos for my "Maternity Work Capsule Wardrobe" that I'm finally going to post next week! Yay me!

Picked this dress up at Target and I've been wearing it basically ever other day since I bought it. Two wrap style dresses I initially picked up from Asos worked well for a long time but now that my chest has grown I've had to start wearing camis underneath them and lately I just don't want to deal with a second layer. This dress is awesome. It is like a pair of jeans in that it goes with everything. Every color cardigan, fun colored jewelry and any fun accessories easily work to change the look of a very comfortable and basic dress. Great buy!

    Week 20-22 Updates
    • Baby - At the 20 week ultrasound the baby started wiggling so I could feel it. And it was really cool to feel it move and see it on the monitor at the same time.
    • Baby - She either loves or hates flying. She wiggled the whole 9 hour overseas flight both to and from Europe.
    • Body - People can now obviously tell I'm pregnant. And I've had three people ask me about when I'm due or what I'm having. Nice that I finally don't just look fat.
    • Body - Pretty consistently feeling achy in my lower back. Think it's from sitting with bad posture at my computer for too many hours while growing a baby.
    • Weight - I'm gaining weight too fast. I've already gained 25 lbs (doctors suggest range of 25-35 lbs total gain) and typically it's about a pound of gain per week from here on out. That would put me at 43 lbs total. Eep. In general I haven't been eating as healthy as I typically do and I need to pay more attention to what I'm eating. At least mix more good for me things in with 'treats.'
    • Cravings - I ate a lot of schnitzel in Germany and it was sooo good. Random craving this week was Ruffles cheddar & sour cream potato chips with Sprite. Two things I don't normally even think about but sounded amazing as I was checking out at Target. Other craving I had (which I made three times) was cooking canned corn with orange bell peppers, onion, pancetta and a dollop of sour cream.Yum.

Polka-dot top #2 for the week. Easy brainless getting dressed formula -> basic bottom + patterned top + colorful completer jacket = snazzy professional outfit. Happy hump day!

I'm finally home! Whirlwind work trip to Germany last week. Super glad to have the lovely V guest posting while I was traveling! The weather in Germany was wonderful - high 50s at night and 70s during the day. Escaping the deathly hot Florida heat got me in the excited for fall outfits.

This outfit is pretty similar to the maternity outfit I posted two weeks ago but instead of a black jersey skirt I added my favorite pencil skirt for a warm autumnal touch. Love.

guest post - v: pink top, khaki pencil skirt, brown peep-toed pumps

    Inspiration - Inonit via Pinterest

This week my friend V (who did One Suitcase Europe Vacation guest last year) volunteered to guest post. She is a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative. V is also a mom to two adorable kids - a 2.5 year old boy and a 7 month old girl. This week's posts are typical outfits she wears during a normal work week as a busy working mom. (Previous posts here.)

Every girl should own this skirt. It is the perfect length for work, the fabric looks expensive and it can either be dressed up with a jacket or for a more casual look I paired it with a cotton tee from the Loft. The belt easily adds style and creates a separation between the top and the skirt. Right now it's on sale at Banana!

This dress (recent purchase from Loft) got so many compliments! It is extremely comfortable, stylish and I bought it on sale! And as a nursing mother it has easy access to my boobs to either pump or to breastfeed. :)

As a working nursing mother choosing clothes that are fashionable, wrinkle free, comfortable and most importantly accessible to my boobs is key! After getting fully dressed for work, my daughter who is 7 months old needs to nurse, so I easily button down or lift up my top so she can feed before i leave her for the day. Once I get in the car, I use a hands free pumping bra from Target. (Make sure to use a cover-up so that other drivers don't see what you are doing!)

I absolutely love the fabric of this shirt that Express makes. It does not wrinkle!!! More importantly the fabric is ultra lightweight and comes in many vibrant colors.

I saw this outfit on Pinterest and decided to try it out because I already owned similar pieces. This outfit is a trendy business casual look I would wear for a laid back Friday.

guest post - v: black t-shirt dress, black buckle flats

    Inspiration - Anne Hathaway

Idea #2 I had for maintaining some interesting non-maternity posts around here in the coming months is to have some of my cute professional friends do a guest week of posts about what they wear to their particular jobs in a variety of different industries. (Idea #1 was a 'body double' to play dress up in my closet.) There are so many different versions business casual in the workplace today which can vary dramatically by your specific work/office/area that I think it's really fun to see how other people dress for their day-to-day jobs.

This week my friend V (who did One Suitcase Europe Vacation guest last year) volunteered to guest post. She is a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative. Her job is to provide drug information and product samples to physicians. A large portion of her time is spent “in the field” meeting with physicians by visiting the physicians’ practices. In addition to the daily physician visits, reps sometimes attend sales meetings, conference calls, or training sessions with the management team. They may also do lunchtime presentations at physicians’ offices, supplying lunch for the office staff and discussing the drug’s indications, side effects, features, and benefits with physicians.

V is also a mom to two adorable kids - a 2.5 year old boy and a 7 month old girl. This week's posts are typical outfits she wears during a normal work week as a busy working mom:

This simple cotton dress is extremely comfortable, easy to wash, doesn't wrinkle and was only $10! It is my first ever Walmart clothing purchase. It can be dressed up with fun necklace/pearls for work or can be causal enough to be used as a cover-up to the beach. The first day I wore it to work, throughout the day I recieved many compliments on the outfit but I was too embarrassed to say that I bought it at Walmart :)

The shoes are a must have for anyone who has to do a lot of walking and or standing each day. These are Cole Haan ballet flats that have the Nike Air sole. As a pharmaceutical rep I spend a lot of time waiting for doctors in the hallway so wearing these adorable and comfortable flats has really helped.

outfit post maternity: purple skater dress, grey cardigan, grey pumps

    (20 Weeks)
    Inspiration - Reese Witherspoon

I have been wearing this dress from Asos ($23 right now but low on colors) in both this purple version and a black version non-stop. Stretchy and flowy - they are intended to fit 'all stages of pregnancy' so they've worked from early on until now. Only issue is my chest has gotten so big lately that the neckline has become indecent so I've had to start to wearing a cami underneath to prevent a boob show. Other then that - it's been a great go-to dress thus far.

I started to take some of the pictures for a work maternity capsule wardrobe to show 16 pieces combining to make 30-35 work outfits. After a few photos I noticed that my belly only shows distinctly in some of the clothing - I don't know if it might make more sense to wait a few more weeks so it really looks like a PREGNANT capsule? Or since I'm 1/2 way there just go for it? Hmmm....

outfit post maternity: polka dot blouse, jean jacket, black jersey pencil skirt

    (20 weeks)
    Inspiration - Old Navy

Busy busy week this week. Normal work routine. House guests all weekend. Around the house major closet clean out in guest-to-become-baby room (nesting?), new a/c installed (old one was from the 80s), cable issues fixed (took sooooo long) and had a bunch of power washing done outside. Plus leaving for Germany for week long work trip on Sunday. Phew!

I am loving big button down shirts over pencil skirts/maternity pants at this phase in my pregnancy. Only thing is I feel like my proportions are weird if I only wear a shirt & skirt so despite the heat I've been topping all my outfits with a jacket or cardigan 'completer piece' which makes me feel more balanced & pulled together. Good thing my office keeps the a/c to arctic during the Florida summers!

    Week 20 update
Yay! Halfway there! Seems like I've been pregnant forever already but know I still have quite a ways to go. Just glad things have been healthy & strong to this point.

    Recent developments:
    • My main cravings have been arugula & melon salads and ice cream/anything sugar.
    • Had a few days in a row last week where my emotions were slightly overwhelming (melancholy/sad) but seemed to have returned to normal levels again.
    • Maybe have felt a baby wiggle or two? Nothing distinct.
    • Getting bigger and bigger - especially the boobs. They are a little ridiculous.

outfit post: light chambray shirt, black pencil skirt, leopard clutch

    Inspiration - Jennifer Garner

A few weeks ago Paloma over at Nine Thirty to Five blog mentioned that she had been leery of wearing her chambray shirt to the office but once she did she was totally into it. I feel the same way - the material is basically denim which seems incredibly casual but the actual design of the shirt has buttons and a collar which is actually pretty office appropriate. After dressing my friend up in my chambray shirt with a black pencil skirt, I found that I really like the result! So I've decided, for casual days, I'm joining the wear your chambray to the office train too! :)

outfit post: white button down shirt, navy & white striped skirt

    Inspiration - H&M

I really like the crisp clean look of this outfit. No signs of fall yet here in hot muggy Florida so still embracing breathable light fabrics. I think this outfit would be a cute one for a casual work day that transitions into a casual date night with the hubs.

Random pet peeve - I feel like there are lots of magazine articles & blog posts about 'day to night' or 'desk to dinner' transition outfits and they recommend things like, "Just bring another pair of shoes, smaller bag and different top and change all of them after work! Viola day to night!" Um, in my opinion if you are doing more then taking off a cardigan - it's not a day to night outfit, you brought a new outfit to change into. Which is fine. Just not what the articles are trying to claim. End random sidebar. :)

outfit post maternity: gameday orange & blue cap sleeve scoop back belted dress, orange wedges

    (19 weeks)
    Inspiration - Amazon

Football game weekends are a big deal around these parts. The town explodes with festive people decked out in their orange & blue finest. I personally love football season because for all the home game our house fills up with visiting friends and family. I love the yearly excuse to have all my favorite people stay with us and we do lots of eating, drinking (water for me these days - boring) and catching up!

I shopped around a bit before I found this fun maternity game day dress. At $85 it was a little more expensive then what I was hoping to spend but after trying it on I love it. And as my body expands (in lots of other places then my belly) I haven't been crazy about the fit of a lot of clothing lately. Also, the way it swirls & drapes it would still be flattering not pregnant which means I'll be able to wear it next year too! Win win!

The stretch breathable fabric was also great for super hot day of tailgating. Now if only the game hadn't been rained out by sudden killer lightening storm...

(Had some trouble finding any similar dresses but I picked out some other orange or blue options that I liked and would wear to game day with maybe some fun jewelry.)

outfit post maternity: teal cardigan, dot blouse, grey wide legged pants

    (19 weeks)
    Inspiration - Talbots

This outfit is me copying myself from a pre-preggers outfit from last year. Same cardigan as the other outfit but new maternity pants and new blousy top. I'm definitely missing the ability to belt pants at my waist but that whole growing a human thing will make it worth it. :)

These maternity pants are awesome. They look decently professional but absolutely feel like sweat pants. Nice soft underbelly band at the top. They have been in my constant work wear rotation since I grew out of all my non-pregnancy bottoms. (They come in brown, black & grey.)

    Week 19 update
I'm feeling pretty great - let's stay in this phase for as long as possible! Only symptom I'm having is some achiness in my lower back/hips when I go on long walks. Still waiting to feel the baby moving - I've had some maybe flutters but nothing definite or regular.
