outfit posts: most popular clothing clicks - august

Because I use affiliate links on this site (I get a few cents each time you guys click a shopping link) I am able to see a dashboard of what items were the most clicked on each week/month. I think it's really interesting to see which clothing links you guys are engaged by and click a bunch. And then compare those to which ones you decide to pass over. Here's the most clicked items so far through August. :)

outfit post maternity: pink ruffle blouse, black cardigan, black stretch skirt, black pumps

(18 weeks)
Inspiration - "Mellie Grant" Scandal

While I listened to an especially long & boring conference call about corporate bonus plans last week I zoomed through an entire season of Scandal on my computer taking screencaps of all of Mellie Grant's maternity wear. I figure if it's dressy enough for a pretend President's wife to wear around the fake White House - it should be on the formal side of office business casual for me. (I have a week long work trip to Germany coming up mid-September that I need to figure out.) Mellie's maternity style on the show seems to be pencil skirts, pretty blouses and completer pieces of cardigans & jackets. Right up my alley.

My pink blouse is actually a non-maternity blouse that I almost never wear because it (was) too big on me and I go back and forth on love/hate with the big ruffle. But that now I have such slim pickings for work blouses it is welcome in the rotation just for variety's sake.

Week 18 update
Doctor appointment went well. Everything looks healthy. Baby girl was wiggling around on sonogram. When I expressed concern that I am gaining weight at a rate that might put me slightly past the 25-35 lb range the (very fit) doctor said the range is a little like a speed limit - recommended but everyone goes a little fast which made me feel better.

outfit post maternity: black & white polka-dot dress, black suit jacket, black pumps

(18 weeks)
Inspiration - Kate Middleton

I love this dress from Asos.  It's cute and swirly and reminds me of Kate Middleton. The only issue is it is made from a stretch cotton jersey that isn't great quality. You can kind of see how the polka-dots are stretching across my chest and it feels like it won't last if I wash it too many times. Buuuttt since I'm only pregnant temporarily - it just has to hold up until the beginning of next year. :)

Week 18:

Jackets and cardigans are pretty much the only clothing from my normal closet that still fit. All shorts, pants, skirts and vast majority of tops are all too tight now. But by adding the jackets, cardigans and jewelry to maternity basics - they goes a long way to making the basics seem interesting & different.

I don't have as many changes since last week. Feeling pretty great. Continuing to plump up at what is hopefully a reasonable rate. Excited for ultrasound appointment today! Still waiting to feel movement - should be soon!

I loooooove this outfit. I think it looks so polished and sophisticated. Crisp button down white shirt (wrote about shirt here) paired with classic pencil skirt with interesting pattern and unexpected pop of white pumps. Love love love.

outfit post maternity: white t-shirt, navy tile jacquard riveria shorts, medallion sandals

(17 Weeks)
Inspiration - Olivia Palermo

I love love love these cute printed maternity shorts I bought from Loft after seeing them recommended by Audrey of Putting Me Together. (Who happens to be the cutest pregnant blogger ever.) Plus she did a fun post on different ways to style printed shorts wearing them. Great tips for maternity or non-maternity. Yes please!

(I did have to wait a few weeks for Loft to have one of their recurring 50% off sales to purchase because otherwise they are $80! Eep. Just checked today and online with current 40% no-code required sale - they are $39.)

outfit post: paisley shorts, light chambray shirt, medallion sandals

Inspiration - J.Crew

Summer is winding down - so sad. Love these print shorts so much. They seem very summer to me. I think these shorts look more pulled together with the chambray button down then the usual t-shirt or tank that I typically wear with them. So, since these shorts are more 'dressed up', I think would be a good outfit for a labor day BBQ.

outfit post maternity: geo print top, black cropped pants, nude wedges

(17 Weeks)
Inspiration -Asos

Thank you all so so so much for all the well wishes on the pregnancy! I really appreciate all the sweet, kind and supportive words. You all sure know how to make a girl feel special! Thank you. :)

This week I flew to Memphis to visit my best friend. We spent the weekend touring the zoo & botanical gardens with her two adorable girls. The little one is four and would come up to me - eye to eye with my belly - give my stomach a kiss and say, "I love your baby already!" It was pretty much the most adorable thing ever.

Week 17:
I don't have as many changes this week as I have over the past few months. I'm feeling relatively normal and pretty much back to my old self. Yippee.

This shirt is still a little tent-y for how far along I am in my pregnancy but I bought it because I really like the graphic pattern amid the solid shirts/tanks I've been wearing. (It's going to be a key piece in the One Suitcase - Maternity Work post I'm putting together to post in a few weeks.)  I've been wearing it a lot with different colored cardigans to change it up. It definitely seems like it has enough room to grow with me to the end of my nine months.

outfit post: pink tie front blouse, grey 'editor' pant, brown peep toed pumps

Inspiration - Style.com (2011)

This Forever 21 blouse has been a closet workhorse in the 5 years I've owned it. The thing I love about tie-neck blouses is that the detail of the tie/bow adds interest to what you are wearing making it look like more of an 'outfit' without having to add a completer piece like a jacket or cardigan or a interesting necklace. Put on your blouse and bottom and you are out the door looking pulled together - no thought to extra details required.

outfit post: boucle jacket, black cropped pant, black patent wedges

Inspiration - Banana Republic

I love love love this outfit. I wore almost this exact outfit last year on vacation in Paris with my bestie and felt very chic. I think it's also great for looking very professional while still very cool.

What's great about this jacket from H&M is that it feels more like a cardigan then a structured jacket. So it looks polished while still being very comfortable.

outfit posts maternity: pink drapey cardigan, white maternity tank, black cropped maternity pants, black wedges

Little bit wordy to catch you guys up to speed...

Recap of weeks 1-15:
Symptoms - My major pregnancy symptom from the very beginning was fatigue. I got home from my back-to-back trips to Thailand and Philadelphia at the end of May and felt incredibly jet lagged. I rested, slept and took it easy but no matter what I did I woke up every morning feeling like I just got off an international red-eye. Or hit by a truck. I slept a ton and did the best I could to muddle through long busy work days without screwing too many things up.

I'm thankful that I didn't have any other symptoms on top of the tiredness - I can't imagine dealing with nausea too. Around week 14 the eternal exhaustion finally let up. Looking back, while I consider myself to be relatively mentally tough at pushing through life challenges and achieving whatever I set out to do even if I'm uncomfortable, it was a pretty difficult few months. That whole 'creating another human being' thing - it's no joke. :)

Food - I tend to both overeat and eat junk when I'm stressed or tired. So being super tired for ten weeks I ended up eating a ton. Unfortunately most of it was junk food takeout. And I also started craving sweets which is unusual for me. My one specific craving was actually somewhat healthy - greek yogurt with banana, peanut butter and honey. (Which now I'm totally over.)

Exercise - I tried to complete a few normal workouts because I read exercise could help the fatigue. But I was so so tired and felt lightheaded if I pushed too hard that I pretty quickly abandoned my normal routine. I have instead tried to be pretty consistent on taking the dog on a really long walk everyday.

Clothes - Because of all the eating I basically immediately gained almost ten pounds. Most of what I read suggested you'll gain at most 1-4 lbs in the first trimester if not possibly lose weight with nausea. Um, whoops. I initially thought that I would be able to still wear my normal clothes with maybe a belly band until around weeks 14/16. But by week 10 I was uncomfortable in all my pants (including my fat pants) and my chest has gone up two sizes basically eliminating the majority of my tops.

Weeks 8-15 were pretty weird dressing myself. I just looked like I put on weight and not that I was pregnant at all. And as I started purchasing maternity clothes the sizing recommendations on the websites said to buy your normal size but just in maternity. But because I initially got bigger in general - I have had to size up by two sizes for the clothes to feel comfortable.

Week 16 (current):
Symptoms - Feeling basically normal again. Yay!

Food - Eating has returned to normal - healthy with occasional splurges.

Exercise - Sticking with really long daily walks. Want to add in some light weight and cardio soon.

Clothes - Finally have a little pregnant belly instead of just a weirdly distributed larger body. And I have only gained 3 more pounds after the initial 10 so my careening towards turning into a giant marshmallow puff has slowed. I'm slowing acquiring a small collection of maternity clothes. Searching for & buying them without spending a fortune has given me new appreciation for those who are building a work wardrobe from scratch. Planning to do a maternity work capsule wardrobe around 20 weeks once the belly has popped a bit more.

outfit post: purple/lilac cardigan, grey pencil skirt, nude wedges

Inspiration - Jessica Alba

I love grey & lilac together! This is definitely my go-to work uniform - pencil skirt, camisole and bright cardigan. (Pinned lots of examples in my Pinterest 'work uniform' folder.) Always easy on the brain and always looks pulled together. Done and done. :)

outfit post: grey camp shirt, black pencil skirt, black patent wedges

Inspiration - Victoria's Secret

So idea #1 for maintaining non-maternity outfit posts in the coming months was to call up one of my bookclub besties and have her come over for a few hours of playing dress up in my closet. She was an awesome sport while I put her in outfits and posed her for pictures in all my clothing that stopped fitting me six weeks ago. (Sniff - I already miss you pencil skirts...) It was both fun & strange to see someone else in all my familiar clothes. We ran through lots of inspiration outfit pins from my pinterest account and took a bunch of photos for me to use here going forward! Yay for using a body double!

I like this outfit a lot. Feel like I've been posting a bunch of bright punchy pops of color lately so it's nice to mix it up with a work outfit using sophisticated neutrals.

First maternity post from me will be this Thursday! :)

      outfit post: exciting announcement!

Hubby & I are excited to announce we are expecting a little girl in January!

A few month ago when I found out I was pregnant I started taking extra photos when I took my regular outfit picture so that I could have some backup outfits to use here until I was ready to announce the news. So the past few weeks I've been a little sneaky and sharing those pictures instead of recent daily ones.

During this time I've also been thinking about how to handle the blog for this next year of change in my life. So far I've decided that I definitely want to keep posting outfits but I don't want this to become entirely a maternity outfit blog.

I've been brainstorming a handful of ideas that I think I would enjoy if I were a non-pregnant regular blog reader to post 3-4 days each week. And then I'm thinking that I will post 1-2 days of what I'm actually wearing so those who are interested in maternity wear can see how I figure out dressing my pregnant changing body. A little bit for on both sides of the bump fence. :)

So this is very exciting and totally unknown territory for me! I think it will be a fun adventure. I'll do my best to keep things here entertaining and I hope that you bare with me as I figure this all out! :)
