outfit post: green shirt dress, gold belt, nude pumps

      Inspiration - Victoria's Secret

This is a great versatile dress. I wear it to the office and on the weekends. I feel like I look pulled together but it's as easy and comfy as throwing on a shirt. Cute with zero thought required - my kinda Friday outfit!

Think it'll be fun in the winter too paired with riding boots and a thick knit cardigan.

Thanks for all the kind words yesterday. You guys are so nice! I really really appreciate all the support & sweet sentiments! :)

Yellow skirt day today. This week has felt like three mashed into one. So so long. Super excited for the 3 day weekend. Woo-hoo!

outfit post: pink tie front blouse, black pencil skirt, black pumps

              Inspiration - www.ideeli.com

When I started this blog I didn't know if it would be an easy or difficult exercise to maintain. I wasn't sure how to estimate what kind of time commitment it would be trying to get a post up 6 days a week.

And for the most part it isn't too bad. I snap outfit pictures in the mornings or after work or sometimes when I'm playing in my closet on the weekend. I spend random times during conference calls (meetings that I only need to listen & take the occasional note) casually scanning pinterest for inspiration photos. And then I budget about 15-20 minutes a day to put each post together - uploading the photo, looking up the shopping links & making them affiliate and writing a blurb about the post. And then once or twice a week I try to reply to comments & emails. (<--- Need to get better about frequency of this one.) So maybe around 3 hours a week? Not too bad.

What I found surprising is the absolute hardest part of the whole thing for me is figuring out something the write each day. Sometimes finding a subject is easy because there is a story or thought process or something that makes sense to write about related to the photo - but most times I'm like, "uhhhh I wore pink cuz it's spring" or "oh, look I'm wearing the exact same skirt again mostly because I can't be naked at work!" or "Guess what! I'm wearing the 10,000th cardigan and pencil skirt combo AND did I mention What Not to Wear show in the last five minutes? blah blah blah..." I feel like a total dofus.  And like I'm just grasping for a topic to stick in the post. There are only so many anecdotes I have about my clothing.

I don't even know what I'm trying to accomplish by sharing this. Sorry if I'm boring sometimes? I hope you're here for the pictures? Maybe I just didn't have anything else to write about. :)

outfit post: purple button down, black pencil skirt, black pumps

              Inspiration - H&M

I have owned the same random Target laptop bag since the very beginning of college. (13 years - eep.) It is black and basic and well past it's expiration date. It has traveled the world with me, often carrying two laptops at a time, and after years of abuse it was really showing it's age.

Right before I went to DC for work in July I started thinking about how I was spending time, money & effort on my wardrobe to look polished & professional and yet I was lugging the Pig-pen (dirty kid from Peanuts comic) version of a laptop bag around. It had gotten so beat up & worn out that it was detracting from my overall business appropriate impression. (In my head I imagined clients thinking, "Why did this competent & professional project manager go dumpster diving for her laptop bag?") It was well past it's time to be replaced.

I decided to look into an investment priced bag considering I carried the last one for so long and when I travel (frequently) it's glued to my side the whole trip. My fashionable & great-at-deal-finding friend mentioned that if you keep an eye on Kate Spade laptop bags they go on decent sale a few times a year and when I checked Amazon I was lucky it happened to be one of those times! I bought the Kate Spade Calista laptop bag for half-off full price. Score! (Sadly, it's not on sale anymore.) And I love it. It's super lightweight, has a decent number of pockets and the inner lining is a polka-dot pattern. Too cute.

If you're interested - below are links to a few examples of handbag-like laptop bags that I think are both professional and cute. It took a little searching to find filter out the boring, utility-only ones but I think I found some good options at various price points.

outfit post: grey boyfriend cardigan, white tank, black 'editor' pants

              Inspiration - H&M

Nice low key rainy weekend with the hubby. Worked a bit (me just a tiny bit - hubs quite a lot), watched some movies, light clean up around the house & yard, grabbed a quick hour of sun at the pool before another downpour, wet trip to the dog park and ran a few errands.

Glad to have a nice slow weekend because next weekend is the first football weekend of the year. We always have piles of guests and lots of tailgates to attend and beers to drink. It seems like every year once football starts life gets so crazy that I blink and next thing I know it's past the holidays. Buckle up!

outfit post: striped dress 4 ways

              Inspiration - Reese Witherspoon

The 'ways' for the 'one dress 4 ways' really aren't all that different from each other. Pretty much just swapping a cardigan and shoes out for a single dress.

At first I was thinking that this wasn't exciting enough to photograph for the blog but then I thought to myself, "Self, (because I obviously talk to myself and call myself self) is it really necessary to try to get your beach coverup to be transformed to go clubbing and then attend a work conference?" And after I realized I shouldn't address myself directly - I realized that this for the most part is representative of how I actually wear my clothes.

Most clothes get reworn in a certain dress code niche of my life and the little adjustments keep them interesting. Because if I really like a dress with a cardigan then I'm probably going to wear it with a few different colored cardigans instead of trying to force an outfit with a leather jacket or wear a sweater over the dress and try to pretend it's a skirt.

So, I present... one dress - three cardigans! :)

outfit post: purple cardigan, pink print blouse, bootcut jeans

              Inspiration - Jennifer Aniston

There are a few closet staples that I always have an eye out for when I go shopping - particularly fun colored cardigans (I have a problem), pretty print blouses (WNTW formula - I'm annoying myself with how much I'm mentioning it) and great fitting dresses (for work or for day - just because they are hard to find). These are things that I can buy different variations of when I find them on sale and they go a long way to bolster my existing wardrobe.

Both this cardigan and this blouse are examples of those sorts of items. I bought these on super sale from Banana Republic a few years ago by digging around in the sale rack. I typically wear them for work but I like them here for a basic casual running around errands soft of outfit.
