outfit posts: striped shirt 7 ways

*Updated this post to include all 7 outfits in one image.

Inspiration - J.Crew

Saw this J.Crew image on Pinterest and I thought it'd be fun to recreate the three looks using my black and white tank. I really like the pencil skirt look (I was worried I'd look like a bumblebee but I actually really like the color combination) and the army jacket look. But the chambray shirt isn't my favorite with the mint jeans. I wish my chambray shirt was more of a jacket like the inspiration photo... as I type this I realize I should have tried my jean jacket instead... whoopsie.

outfit post: white smocked crepe blouse, bootcut jeans

    Inspiration - Amy Adams

Comfy casual cute. Back to basics. My favorite jeans and a easy white top. Add some sparkle and sandals and it's a perfect combination for running errands around town or after some little humans on the playground. (I baby-sat for my good friend's 18 month old last weekend and he was perfectly sweet & well behaved but wow - he didn't stop moving for the entire 5 hours! Afterwards I was exhausted. Kudos to you moms who do it everyday!)

Other exciting news - I updated the domain to www.outfitposts.com. I've had it for almost a year but never got around to making the update. The blogger address still works fine. I don't think it'll affect anyone but nice to have a more personal web address. Yay me!

outfit post: mustard cardigan, white ruffle blouse, tan 'editor' pants, burgundy heels

    Inspiration - Michelle Obama

Nothing like a little help from the FLOTUS help to get dressed for work in the morning! I really like the pretty sparkly embellished details on her cardigan paired with the metallic heel. Since I don't own either of those things - I went with a similar color scheme, my new necklace for sparkle (loving it so much!) and burgundy heels for fun shoes.

I think this cardigan can safely be called my very favorite ever. Here are previous wears of this (& my other super similar) green/mustard cardigan:
    Blue heart crepe dress
Blue plaid shirt & black pencil skirt
    Chevron dress & riding boots
Black pencil skirt & burgundy pumps
Green floral blouse & black pants
Navy skirt & black polka-dot blouse
Printed pencil skirt & white tie top
Striped top & black pencil skirt
    Teal & black wrap dress
Green floral blouse & grey pants
Polka-dot pencil skirt & white tie blouse
    Grey sheath dress
Black cropped pants & white tie blouse
Brown pencil skirt & white tie blouse
White button down & black cropped pants
Black pencil skirt & black blouse
Bootcut jeans & white button down

outfit post: purple cropped pants, white blouse, black flats

    Inspiration - Kate Bosworth

I'm being a little lenient with my 'inspiration' photo today. It basically inspired a colored bottom and white top with black shoes but besides that general guideline they're not very similar. Oh well, who says inspiration has to be literal?

I was really happy with this outfit. I think I've been wearing a ton of bright colors this summer so switching it up to a jewel tone felt good for a change. (And I loved wearing my fun new necklace that looks a bit like a sword. Hi-ya!)

outfit post: blue floral dress and wedges

    Inspiration - Loft.com

My super-cute and always perfectly accessorized close girlfriend has become a Stella & Dot representative. I've seen their jewelry on other blogs but hadn't really checked the pieces on the website out before.

I've been thinking that I need to upgrade some of my old Target jewelry to better quality pieces - especially for work. I love that with jewelry you can wear a sorta plain outfit and then throw on a great necklace or a sparkly bracelet and all of a sudden you have an 'outfit'. So why not invest a bit in making those outfits look great? With that thought I went on her site and had a little shopping spree.

    I bought:
(Disclaimer - I'm not getting any compensation for this post - just sharing what I purchased. But the links, like the others on this site, are affiliate so I get a few cents if you click.)

outfit post: mint santa fe tee, skinny jeans, ankle boots

    Inspiration - CabiOnline

I've been really hit or miss in outfits attempts with these ankle boots. I keep loving them on other people (hello Rachel Bilson! She always looks so adorable in them.) but I personally always feel sort of off when I wear them. I think the previous outfit attempts with the boyfriend jeans and the midi skirt both looked pretty bad (see links below) and I thought it might be that I needed to have a more fitted bottom to contrast with the width of the boot. So for this outfit I stuck to skinny jeans and a simple shirt.

And while I like the idea of this outfit, I don't know if the jeans are too tight or I'm just not used to emphasizing my legs so much, but something is preventing from loving this outfit. Maybe I'm just not an ankle boots kinda gal?

outfit post: striped maxi dress, jean jacket, kelly green bag

    Inspiration - Khloe Kardashian

Do you ever buy something new and then only want to wear that new thing? Every. Single. Day? That's how I feel about this dress. (And the navy and white striped skirt from the 7x7 last week.) It's so cozy and perfect for summer. But I'm resisting my urge and trying to limit myself to wearing it only once a week. :)

outfit post: mint tank, tan pants, brown peep-toed pumps

    Inspiration - Loft

I really really like this color combination. I wore a similar color combo outfit here. For part of the day I wore a white cardigan but then I got hot and just decided to go with the tank. Sometimes work clothes are the last thing you want to be wearing on hot summer days...

I'm on a Reese Witherspoon kick! I love the bright fun mini skirt and layered gold necklaces. Happy sunny summer outfit! :)

outfit post: pink short sleeved sweater, grey pencil skirt, brown wedges

    Inspiration -Reese Witherspoon

I hope everyone had a lovely Father's Day. My family went to eat at local nice pizza place where my brother works (because he had a shift and he was able to take a break at hang out with us) and we had a yummy dinner while enjoying eachother's company.

My little sister came to dinner in the cutest outfit of white shorts, striped top, army green vest and cute black strappy heels. She looked like she should be on Atlantic Pacific or another high fashion blog. (Doesn't hurt she's 5'9" plus and looks like model!) I asked her if she'd do another guest week for the blog because I think she has such great style that is so different from mine. This it's fun to see different style here occasionally. She agreed - we just need to set it up!

outfit post: striped shirt, yellow shorts, braided sandals

    Inspiration - Cameron Diaz

I've recently started to try to become one of those morning workout people. It's not natural for me to be up that early or workout first thing. And then afterwards I feel like I'm foggy all day long. Like I'm jet lagged without having traveled anywhere! I was so so tired when I got dressed this morning.

This is one of my favorite shirts of all time. I love stripes. It's stretchy and fits well. But today it kept bugging me and I had to pulled on it all day long to have it sit right.

Just after I took this photo - and was wondering to myself why I used to think this shirt was so comfortable - I pulled at the neck and realized there was a tag in the front. This smartie pants wore her shirt backwards all day! Sleepy dressing is hard. No wonder there was no room for my chest... so you're welcome for my Kriss Kross backward shirt outfit! :)

    outfit post: striped maxi dress

    Inspiration - Lauren Conrad

Found this dress tucked in a random rack at Target. It's an extra large but I sorta love how long and swirly it is when I walk. Plan on wearing this to check out the farmers market this weekend.

(Kim Kardashian wore a really similar dress recently too - but I decided not to use it as inspiration because she's preggers and looks really different.)
