outfit post: navy blouse, mint cropped jeas, leopard & zebra heels

Inspiration - Kendi Everyday

I feel a little like a crazy person in this outfit. I love Kendi's outfit but for some reason the way I put mine together feels too busy. Maybe I should have done a simpler necklace? Or less busy shoes? Or maybe both? I love each of the pieces individually - there's just something weird about them all together. It's not a bad outfit but it also isn't going to make my list of all time favorites either.

(Wore this blouse previously as going out top with highwaisted shorts.)

outfit post: navy polka-dot tie-neck blouse, mustard pencil skirt, nude pumps

Inspiration - Kendi Everyday

Love how cheery the navy and yellow combination are together. Fun colors to brighten up a grey chilly day.

I'm lucky now in that I don't have to commute to work by walking to the metro during the freezing winter like I did last year when I was working in DC. What I used to do when I had to brave the elements but I wanted to wear not-super-warm outfit like this - I would just wear my flat brown riding boots, really warm high fuzzy socks and my winter coat while I was outside but then switch to fun nude pumps at my desk. (And, just in case, I always have a warm cardigan at my desk for both summer a/c or winter chill.)

outfit post: blue button down shirt, black pencil skirt, burgundy pumps

    Inspiration - Ann Taylor

Feeling the professional vibe for Monday. This is a good outfit for a more 'serious' workday. I strive to look more polished on days I am presenting at meetings with clients or perhaps when upper level bosses are visiting the office who I don't typically interact with on a daily basis.

I've written about this before but buying this Brooks Brother's no iron button down shirt is one of the best investments I've made for my work wardrobe. It was on the expensive side but it is hands down the best 'no-wrinkle' shirt I've ever owned! You can wash it, throw it in the dryer and then give it a shake as you hang it up and it really does look like you just spent 20 minutes ironing it. (Unlike similar shirts I've bought from Banana or Ann Taylor.) I hate taking clothes to the dry cleaners and paying someone else to clean my clothes & I am not a big fan of ironing.

When I bought the shirt - I waited until the semiannual sale and while it was still expensive the dry cleaning money & ironing time it has saved me has made this shirt totally worth the investment.

outfit post: white cotton peasant blouse, flared jeans, brown wood wedges

    Inspiration - Net-A-Porter

Net-a-Porter's notes about the Vanessa Bruno blouse in the inspiration photo, "Imbue your off-duty look with Parisian chic - just add Vanessa Bruno's timeless cotton and wool-blend blouse. Team with flared jeans and fresh makeup for weekend brunch dates." Before I read the blurb I was thinking that the outfit feel is a little more peasant/70s vibe then Parisian chic. But Net-A-Porter definitely knows better then I do! Either way it's a cute laid-back look perfect for almost any weekend activity!

outfit post: navy & white polka-dot dress, navy cardigan, wide woven belt

      Inspiration - What I Wore

This dress has a special place in my heart because it's the dress I was wearing when my hubby proposed at a sunset picnic almost four years ago. Yay.

I think wrap dresses with a-line skirts are the single most flattering dress shape for any body type. They cinch at the waist and flow away from the body giving you shape while also being forgiving of flaws. I love this dress and have worn it for so many occasions - sightseeing on vacation, dinner with parents, work with a cardigan, babyshowers...  it just seems to be exactly right for so many places & events.

PS It's my birthday today! Happy 32 to me! :)

outfit post: green & blue striped shirt, bootcut jeans, nude flats

      Inspiration - J.Crew

Some days are t-shirt, jeans and comfy flats kinds of days. But that doesn't mean you can't throw in some fun colors to brighten up your casual look.

(Um stripes with green much? Here, here, here, here, here, here, here... phew!)

outfit post: red sweater, grey pants, black pumps

Simple sweater with slacks. Red makes me think of all the holidays that are headed our way. (Definitely will find of some outfit inspiration photos in December to use with this sweater.) Threw on a coat over the sweater and I was ready to go! Love when the clothing has the details and I don't have to use my brain in the morning to consider accessories! :P

outfit post: burgundy cardigan, white button down, brown pencil skirt

      Inspiration - Ann Taylor

We finally have some slightly cooler weather here in Florida so today's outfit is a mix of fall colors and some layering to celebrate. (Wore this cardigan recently here.) I felt in the mood for dressing more matchy-matchy then normal with my cardigan, pumps and bag all the same color and I kind of love it.

outfit post: blue & white striped dress, white cardigan, orange belt

      Inspiration - Such Good Style

Gameday! Time for some tailgating & football!

Throughout the year I always kind of keep an eye out for inexpensive orange or blue clothing that might be fun to wear on gamedays. This strapless blue & white dress was on the super sale rack at Old Navy for $8. I didn't love the dress when I first tried it on because it has a 8 inch floppy ruffle layer around the strapless top that looked weird. But because the dress is held up by super stretchy elastic I just flipped the ruffle inside the bodice and now I think it's cute.

outfit post: black sequin tank, distressed flare jeans

      Inspiration - Old Navy

Friday night out on the town! Plan is to see some friends, drink some drinks and have lots of fun. I originally bought this shirt (4 years ago?) for a trip to Las Vegas. I wanted something sparkly and a little bit rocker. Add the sparkly black tank with my distressed jeans (found them 3 sizes too big at consignment shop & had them tailored to fit) and the outfit feels cool enough to hang out backstage with a band or ride on the back of a motorcycle. (<--I'm such a huge dork.)

outfit post: fushcia pink sweater, pink tweed pencil skirt, nude pumps

      Inspiration - Ann Taylor

Here's a very bright & cheery pink on pink outfit for a dismal cloudy day. Sometime the simplest outfits are the best. I feel like the bright color of the sweater and the knobby texture (is that the right adjective?) of the skirt gives the outfit interest without needing jewelry. Simple, cute, easy, classic. :)

outfit post: burgundy floral dress, army jacket, ankle boots

      Inspiration - Kate Bosworth

My second attempt at an outfit wearing my ankle boot outfit was a bit more successful then my first attempt (last week)! I think showing more of my leg is balancing out the chunky shoe. I like the combination of the soft bright floral dress against the harder earth toned jacket and boots. Before I owned these ankle boots I would have reached for my riding boots (like last March) or nude flats which I think look great but more classic. These ankle boots make me feel like I'm a "cool girl".
