outfit posts: orange and blue tunic dress

Inspiration - Tracy Negoshian

I AM SO EXCITED!! It's that time magical time of year again! College football starts this weekend! Yippee! In case you don't live in the south here's an oldie but a goodie overview of the mania that is college football here in the south: Southern Football Primer. Considering each home game weekend is basically a fully recognized holiday - I love getting dressed in my beloved Gator Orange & Blue to celebrate the occasion!

This dress is hands down my single most complimented piece of clothing that I own. I tried it on at a small boutique four years ago, loved it but was initially on the fence about paying over $100 for a dress. (I usually try to stay under $70 max for casual dresses.) But I loved it so much that I bit the bullet and have been thankful for it ever since.  Every gameday that I wear it I get dozens of compliments. People actually stop me in the street to ask where I bought the dress. Crazy! It is so unique and fun that I have gotten way beyond it's worth in dollars out of the number of times I've worn it & happiness while doing so. Lesson learned - clothes you will really truly love are worth a little extra.

outfit posts: mint polkadot blouse, black cropped pant, yellow belt

Inspiration - What I Wore

Sometimes my outfit recreations aren't exactly the same as the original inspiration photo. I take the parts of the inspiring outfit that I think are pretty/interesting/fun and incorporate them into a combination with pieces of clothing that I already own. While I don't own a cornflower blue blouse with big polka-dots or a bright pink belt to contrast, I do own a mint ruffle blouse with small polka-dots and a yellow belt that does contrast against the minty green nicely. And after you add similar cropped pants and heels and I end up with an outfit I love that is similar yet unique. :)

outfit posts: white jeans, military jacket, black and grey tanks

Inspiration - Gwyneth Paltrow

He's my first sorta fall outfit. Or alternately titled, "Totally not fall! Just summer at a cold airport." (I'm still pretending summer is going to last forever - please let me be delusional for one more week!) I'm wearing my favorite cozy jacket (wore it here last December) with white jeans and layered dark tanks. Super cozy, a little cool rocker and a little cute. Perfect for traveling.

outfit posts: hunter "wellies" rain boots

Inspiration - What I Wore

Inspiration - Hunter via Net-a-Porter

Double the outfits today because we're having double the rain here in Florida from tropical storm Isaac! It has been pouring buckets and buckets which means I get to wear my make-me-happy rain boots.

My wellies were an investment I made a few years ago and I love them so much! I love that I can wear them in the city, rain or snow, with a cute outfit and be fashionable. And I can also wear them out in the country to tromp around the swamp behind my parents house or through slippery woods filled dirty snow. They are incredibly practical and durable. Double win!

The first outfit isn't an exact match to the inspiration but it follows the idea that sometimes when it's doom and gloom outside your outfit can be all about colors to brighten your day. And the second outfit is basically the same outfit as the other day (here) but with boots and a trench coat added.

outfit post: cream top, pink tweed pencil skirt, nude heels

Inspiration - Jigsaw Online

Two new purchases today! I have wanted a tweed pencil skirt forever but I have a hard time justifying spending too much for one. This one was purchased on sale from Talbots online for $34.99 - score! (I also bought the matching jacket which is a little big and needs to be tailored.)

The second new purchase in this outfit are a new pair of nude pumps! I wore my old ones with so many of my work outfits (see here) but they were really scuffed and actually had a chunk missing from wearing them to walk to work while I was in Brazil. They were a mess and  it had become embarrassing and unprofessional to wear shoes in such disrepair.

It took me forever to find the the right new pair. I was looking at cost (under $100), color (not too light or too dark) and I wanted a slight platform but nothing too tall that would make them inappropriate for work. And after three months of looking - I finally came across the perfect pair on Zappos - Nine West Fortnight. I loved them so much I bought them in both back and nude. Yay new shoes!

outfit post: black ruffle tank, mint cropped jeans, black strappy heels

Inspiration - Ring My Bell

Trying to get creative with my going out clothes by incorporating my mint cropped pants. I mostly like this look except I like the length of the inspiration photo's pants better. I think the length of mine is a little too casual. But on the positive side, I do like incorporating a fun color like mint for night instead of my go-to jeans.

outfit post: yellow striped button down, white jean skirt

Inspiration - Modedamour

Don't leave me summer! I love summer and I love hot weather and love outfits like this with fun colors and light fabrics. I want summer to last forever so I'm going to try to sneak in as many hot weather clothes as I can before Labor Day. And then (and only then!) I will accept that it is actually almost fall and start thinking about fall clothing. Although here in Florida it doesn't get that much cooler until late October...

Bringing out my white jean skirt from freshman year of college to recreate this outfit. It was purchased in 1999... eep! I'm definitely bordering on being too old to wear a white jean mini skirt but I don't know how one actually knows when the time has come that it has to be retired? We'll pretend it's still okay for this weekend while I go enjoy the sun and I will worry about that question another day. :)

outfit post: polka-dot pencil skirt, coral blouse, navy cardigan

Inspiration - Stylish Petite

Polka dot Thursday! I am going to travel for work again in the next few weeks to a pretty conservative corporate office. This look was my attempt to find something to pack to be extra professional and serious without actually wearing a matching full suit. I like that it looks completely appropriate but is still really fun because of the polka-dots.

outfit posts: breton stripes, black shorts, black toed flats

Inspiration - Nicky Hilton

I have a a huge love for stripes. I have a hard time not buying any cute, reasonably priced striped top even with a few great ones already in my closet. (All you have to do it click 'stripes' in the colors section of the side bar to see how many striped outfits I've already worn on this blog...)

I think Nicky Hilton looks super cute and chic in this outfit. I would wear this almost anywhere in my day to day life but I also think this would be a great vacation - especially European - outfit to pack for walking around & sightseeing. (It's probably the Breton stripes that gives me that Euro feeling.)

outfit posts: teal blouse, black slacks

Inspiration - This Time Tomorrow

I had this inspiration photo pinned and I was planning on copying it as closely as possible but as I was getting dressed I was just not in a skirt mood. So I decided to stick with the color inspiration and swap in pants. Most of the time I adore wearing skirts but sometimes I just want the option of kicking my shoes off and sitting crossed legged in my cube. Today was definitely a pants day.

outfit posts: green tie blouse, navy a-line skirt, tan t-strap heels

Inspiration - Penny Pincher Fashion

This outfit is the reason I love having a blog that makes me intentionally look for different ways to wear the clothes I already own! I think the blog gives me the initiative I need to keep revisiting items of clothes that I would normally categorize a certain way in my head and then wear in only that way over and and over. For example, I had originally only thought of this blouse as a 'work blouse' - basically just something to layer under cardigans for the office. I didn't even think it could be a pretty top on its own with a skirt!

I have worn both the navy a-line skirt (here) and the green tie neck blouse (here) before on the blog but it never would have occurred to me that they could possibly be good put together.

I was reading super cute blogger post from Penny Pincher Fashion about four ways to wear a midi skirt when I recognized she had on the Old Navy top I already own. So I decided to try the outfit for myself. I am super excited with the result! I feel breezy, sophisticated and really pretty. I think this is a perfect weekend date night outfit!

outfit posts: navy sheer patterned blouse, skinny jeans, peep toed pumps

Inspiration - Lauren Conrad

Happy happy Friday! This shirt was a gift from my little sister a few years ago (maybe 4?) from Khols. I am always wary when someone gives you clothing as a present - it's hard enough to find things I really like and fit well for myself - so when I receive something from someone else I always think, "What a really sweet gesture for them to buy me this gift... I wonder if I will actually even like it on or just pretend to like it and only wear it one time when I'm around them?" Luckily, I didn't have any problem with not liking this blouse - it is super cute on, hides all kinds of flaws in flowy pretty fabric  and makes me happy each and every time I wear it. Yay!

Another thing that makes me happy? I really like that my inspiration photo is LC and this shirt is actually from the LC line. So fun.

outfit posts: nude button down, black shorts, pink chunky necklace

Inspiration - What She Wore 365

It's a casual Wednesday for me. I'm working remotely from home and wanting something super easy & comfortable. I think this necklace is really pretty but sometimes I don't know how to wear it because it's so chunky. I think it works well with this shirt because the shirt is so simple. The necklace makes an otherwise boring outfit fun & cute.

outfit posts: green floral blouse, green/mustard cardigan, grey pants

Inspiration - The Limited

I had a friend of mine ask if I just shopped all the time for clothes to wear for this blog. And the answer is absolutely not! My method for creating these posts is to scan Pinterest/magazines/fashion sites for outfits & inspiration that resemble clothing I already own. I try to get inspired to love the clothes that I have in my closet.

To find inspiration sometimes I just browse around and happen find a great picture that is similar to pieces or colors that I already have and other times I search (google, Pinterest, etc) for terms related to a specific item of clothing I want to wear, "black shorts", "green cardigan" or "mint jeans" and reverse engineer an outfit that way.

I also have a tendency to keep clothing for a really long time. Today's outfit is a good example of how long I hoard keep clothing. I bought this pair of grey Express pants (with a second pair of black ones) for my very first job out of college eight years ago. I wore those two pairs of pants over and over (probably 2x a week each) at the beginning of my work life because I didn't own any other office appropriate pants. And then I bought both the floral top & cardigan from outlets within the first year or so at my job. So the whole outfit doesn't contain any new purchases and is actually around eight years old!

outfit post: orange floral dress

Inspiration - Taylor Swift

I love love love a pretty summer dress. I bought this orange floral dress from Gap on super sale about four or five years ago. It had drifted towards the back of my closet until I came across this picture of Taylor Swift on Pinterest that reminded me of the floral pattern. I love how this is a pretty and perfect for summer dress.
