outfit post: f21 blue striped top, skinny jeans, gold necklace

Inspiration - Forever 21

I bought this shirt from F21 and later saw it styled on their website. I had thought I would wear it more casually/preppy with black shorts and flip flops. But I like that this outfit is outside of my normal style zone. I feel like I could wear this to really casual night time activities. Maybe a friend's party that involved a keg (ie hubby's friends) or to play pool at a hole in the wall bar without being too dressed up. This outfit makes me feel a little cooler then I actually am.

outfit post: striped shirt, yellow pea coat, bootcut jeans

Inspiration - Fashion Salade

I just notice that the past three days I've worn outfits with stripes - I'm going to try to stick with the stripes theme for a few more days and see what I can come up with. I like this one because I would throw on the shirt and jeans naturally and then adding a coat as a pop of color turns it into an 'outfit'.

I'm on a stripes kick! Here's an easy peasy errand running outfit. Cozy & casual for a day spend wandering around Target, the grocery store or where ever your weekend chores may take you. Loves it.

outfit post: black and white striped shirt, skinny jeans, rachel shoes

Inspiration - Pinterest (can't find source)

Yay stripes!  I love them so much! I have already worn and photographed almost the exact same outfit but with different shoes & jewelry - but this time it feels so much more dressed up & fashionable.

And double yay for my first pair of ShoeMint shoes! Rachael Bilson is the cutest thing ever and she started a line of shoes with Steve Madden at a website called ShoeMint. I bought these shoes that I call 'Lady Gaga Shoes' because they are absolutely ridiculous. My feet look like I'm wearing a crazy leprechaun stripper's shoes. Which is to say I absolutely love them.

outfit post: peach striped skirt, white button down

Inspiration - Jessica Quirk What I Wore

I love the shape of this skirt. It's fun and flattering. I felt really girlie the whole time I wore it.

I wore this on the second day of a giant work conference with 1500 people from my company. It was a big networking event and I met more people then I can count. Most people wore in black or navy or grey boring business casual. My I thought was it would be a good idea to wear something slightly unique but still business casual appropriate so my introduction to new people would stand out a little more in their memory. I think it worked - I got so many compliments!

outfit post: mustard green cardigan, black cropped pants, nude heels

Inspiration - Banana Republic

I found these cropped pants for a steal at TJ Maxx. At first I wasn't sure if I would wear them very much but they have turned into a go-to staple as a way to make some of my basic clothing pieces a little more contemporary/trendy. I love them with both heels and with flats.

I would possibly wear this on a casual Friday to work but the cropped length seems a little too unprofessional for anything beyond that and especially inappropriate if there was any client interaction. (For my job - I work for a software company so it's not a really a 'creative' office dress culture - I try to stick to clean professional basics.)

I would also wear this to meet someone's parents or a former work superior for lunch. Maybe to a babyshower or afternoon function?

outfit post: blue sweater, white button down, grey pencil skirt

 Inspiration - Nordstrom

This is my idea of comfy casual. I like the masculinity and warmth of a sweater layered over a white button down shirt offset with the classic feminine pumps and pencil skirt. Happy easy outfit.

I had to bite the bullet to buy the Brooks Brother's no iron button down white shirt. I waited until their semiannual sale and it was still expensive. BUT it is hands down the best 'no-wrinkle' shirt I've ever owned! You can wash it, throw it in the dryer and then give it a shake as you hang it up and it looks like you just spent 20 minutes ironing it. I'm terrible about getting stuff to the dry cleaners & I hate to iron. So while this shirt was expensive - it is totally worth the investment.

outfit post: pink cardigan, polka dot blouse, black pencil skirt

Inspiration - Pinterest via Prepfection

This outfit is a little outside of my comfort zone. I like how retro/sexy secretary I feel in polka dots & pink. But I'm not usually one to wear something that feels quite this girlie-spunky in my dry all boys software engineering corporate culture. It's a fun outfit but I feel just shy of being in costume.

outfit post: mustard top, black pencil skirt

Inspiration - Bourbon & Pearls

I am obsessed with mustard colored clothing. I bought this shirt on clearance from Ann Taylor Loft and have been wearing it with everything. Even though the outfit is incredibly simple - I feel like the color keeps it looking up to date.

outfit post: black long sleeved top, grey wide leg pants

Inspiration - Net-a-Porter

Easy & simple work outfit. This is my go to it's-too-early-to-pick-out-clothes combination. I'm pulled together enough to make it through the day but totally comfortable and zero thought was required to assemble it.

outfit post: blue dress, black suit jacket

Inspiration - Kate Middleton

I love love love Kate Middleton. She does such a wonderful job of keeping her outfits classic and appropriate but still youthful and chic for all the formal functions she goes to. I know if I had the world of designers at my fingertips I would likely wander down some ugly fashion roads.

Here is my take on her dress & suit jacket combo. I love it! I bought this jacket as part of full suit combo of pants, skirt & jacket from Ann Taylor to go to the career fair my junior year of college twelve years (how can it be that long!?!) ago. I have found lots of opportunities to re-wear the pants & skirt separately but I've never worn the jacket on its own before. This outfit makes me happy!

outfit post: blue tie blouse, grey skirt, teal cardigan

Inspiration - Banana Republic

I am headed on two business trips over the next three weeks. One week will be an internal all hands conference and the second week will be working onsite with a client. So in the spirit of all the working & traveling I'm about to do - I am going to do a work outfit week!

The first outfit is all Banana Republic pieces. My method for buying clothes from BR is to occasionally wander through and poke around in the sale/clearance sections. What I really want to do is just buy all the mannequins in the front of the store but I'd be broke before I knew it. I've found that if I keep my eye out for classic looking pieces I can get some amazing deals. I always try to make sure that the things I buy will go with a lot of stuff I already own. None of the items I'm wearing in this outfit were full price.

outfit post: bright floral dress

Inspiration Photo - Betsey Johnson

Here's my take on evening vacation wear. I wore this dress to dinner and to play blackjack on the cruise ship. Bright, happy & fun floral.

I also wore this dress to my rehearsal dinner in Jamaica last August. (Below pix.)

outfit post: bright maxi dress

Inspiration - Tory Burch Maxi Dress

Last vacation post. *Sniff.* I think this dress is a really fun maxi dress. It's tropical and bright. My favorite part is that the stretchy material holds things where they are supposed to be held and is forgiving in places you'd like it to be. I hate wearing stretchy fabric that causes you spend the day sucking your gut in...
