outfit post: tie front sleevless blouse, black skinny jeans, black flats

Inspiration: Kourtney Kardashian Street Style

I think the shirt might be the exact same one from H&M. It has jumping raindeer on it. That makes me happy. The main difference in how we're wearing the shirt is that she is five feet nothing tall and I am almost 5'8". So the shirt is more tunic like on her and more shirt like on me.

I need a longer shirt to wear this out in public. I don't like the feeling of wearing skin tight skinny pants and nothing covering/disguising my derriere.

outfit post: striped long sleeved shirt, skinny jeans, brown boots

Inspiration Photo: Reese Witherspoon via Pinterest

I love Reese Witherspoon's street style. She always looks so effortlessly cute.

I have had this striped shirt for at least 6 years. I have worn it so so many times. Probably one of the most worn items in my closet.

outfit post: cream long cardigan, tie front blouse, gold chain necklace

Inspiration Photo: Little Emma English Home via Pinterest

This outfit made me happy. My jeans are really long and I put on extra high heels. I feel cozy and cute and hot and casual and pulled together all in one outfit. I feel like I could go both shopping at the mall or out to dinner pretty easily in this outfit. Yay for versatility!

outfit post: mustard scarf, grey sweater, leopard flats

Inspiration Photo: Lauren Conrad in the airport

I actually came up with this outfit on my own. It is a very 'me' outfit. It's the kind of basics I gravitate to when I'm not trying to think about being cute. The scarf makes me happy because my two favorite colors for as long as I can remember have been army green and greenish/mustardy yellow. I think the pop of color keeps the outfit from being too boring.

After taking a photo of the outfit I realized that the LC photo I had on Pinterest was a similar base outfit. Comparing the two - I think I need to get better at scarf draping. Her's looks more stylish then mine.

outfit post: pink tie front blouse, grey pants, black belt

Inspiration Photo: Ann Taylor Loft

I don't like this outfit with the black accessories. The whole idea I had when I copied it was to use a red belt I have to accent the pink shirt similar to the inspiration photo. Turns out my red belt is for waist level belting not hip level and too wide to be good anyway. So I went with black because the model in the photo is wearing black shoes. And the end result is - yuck. Maybe I should have switched to brown shoes and either a gold, brown or white belt... live & learn.

outfit post: red plaid shirt, oatmeal sweater, black cropped pants, peep toed pumps

Inspiration: Pinterest from HauteLook.com

What a fun Christmas-y outfit without being overly literal. I think I'm going to wear this to Christmas Eve dinner at home with my family. The only thing I would like to improve on my version of the outfit would be to find a heavier fabric sweater - mine is so thin you can see the buttons & bumps from the shirt beneath it. The cable knit one on the model is super cute!

outfit post: green dress, black pumps, black bib necklace

Inspiration Photo: Alfred Sung Bridesmaid Dresses

I love this dress. It was a random find at Dillard's and has ended up being a perfect go to dress for all kinds of occasions. I wore it to my sister's high school graduation, St. Patty's day out at the bars, a Christmas party last year and out to dinner quite a few times.

outfit post: grey sweater, black mini skirt, black tights, black heels

Inspiration Photo: Pinterist Victoria Tornegren

Sometimes simple is awesome. I don't usually wear this skirt because it's too short on me. But I feel like with tights I can pull it off on a chilly night headed to a bar. Maybe? Swapped the trendier/more masculine shoes for patent pumps and my sweater is less chunky but I like the updates because they give the outfit a slight more streamlined look. Although, now it probably needs some jewelry!

outfit post: yellow shirt, suit jacket, cream scarf, trouser jeans

Inspiration Photo: Kelly Ripa InStyle

All advice books/columns/shows tell you that a 'sports coat' is a wardrobe basic. They say that when you put it on with jeans and anything else it makes your whole outfit look casual but put together. And it's totally true. And I totally never ever do it.

outfit post: hunter boots, skinny jeans, bright plaid shirt, tan cardigan

One of my very favorite fashion blogger's is J's Everyday Fashion. She does such a fantastic job of turning normal mall store purchases into fun & pulled together outfits. Here I'm emulating her look of neutral colors with bright necklace pop.

outfit post: black skinny jeans, black top, drapey wrap cardigan

Inspiration Photo: Net-A-Porter - Donna Karen

This outfit makes me feel like a bad-ass. All black with an accent of grey - how cool am I?

As far as trends go I will never participate in the warm boot with open toe trend. Either my feet are all bundled up in a closed toe shoe or they are out and about in a sandal. Do not understand the open toe boot thing at all!

I also like any time I can wear what feels like a cozy blanket and still be allowed out in public.

outfit post: floral embellished grey cardigan, gold jewelry, jeans

Inspiration Photo: J.Crew

I think I'm good at putting together the bare minimum basics of an outfit. TLC's show What Not to Wear has deeply impressed the formula of a basic bottom, interesting top and cardigan/jacket uniform on my brain. But where I think I need to learn is what comes after that. I would have put on this outfit and stuck in some pearl studs and run out the door. I would not have thought to add such interesting jewelry and fun gold belt to an already embellished cardigan. But the pop of metallic make this more of an outfit-outfit and less a plain jane basic.

outfit post: blue dress, jean jacket, tan heels

Inspiration: Reese Witherspoon Street Style

I've had this jean jacket since early college but I never ever wear it. I want it to feel like a loved pair of almost worn out jeans but it has that new hard jean feel. Like what I'd imagine just bought stiff work jeans to feel like. I've washed it quite a few times hoping to soften it up with no luck. Doesn't photography too bad though...

outfit post: military jacket, striped dress, black boots

Inspiration: Vanessa Jackman blog via Pinterest

The girl in the picture is so much cooler then I ever will be. But the point of me copying outfits for this blog is to get me to try on different looks. So this is different. Don't think I'd leave the house in it but glad I am trying to branch out.

In addition to not being my typical style it's also not really functional as an outfit. My dress is v-necked so I put it on backwards to not show cleavage. If I move it rides up because there is no room for boobs in the back of the dress. And my jacket has a hood with bright pink liner - so I tried to tuck it away. There's a huge quasimodo-esque bulge on my back. And the boots aren't the cool work-boot type. I think they make my legs look stubby. (I normally wear these shoes with black tights - so it all just looks like my leg.)
