outfit post: cobalt button blouse, polka dot pencil skirt, grey pointed toe heels

Inspiration - J.Crew

Looking at this outfit picture - I don't like how the buttons are pulling at my chest. Nine months post-postpartum and I am fitting back into a larger and larger portion of my closet. It's such a slow process - ugh. The main items that I am still unable to wear are blouses with buttons. My nursing chest is still way too big for most of my old tops. And then even when I try to reincorporate a top that I think I'm able to fit into again - I see the outfit picture and realize that any arm movement and the buttons pull and the shirt gapes. I don't want to buy any more bigger-then-normal tops but I still have a few more months of breastfeeding before I (*hope*) my boobs return to normal size. Hopefully the weather cools down and I can hide them in some stretchy bulky sweaters. Blerg.

Random note - I turned 35 last week. It's crazy that my age now rounds up to 40! I still feel like I'm about 17 and pretending to be an adult. We took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and went out on a pontoon boat with my parents on a nearby lake. Cruised around and had a picnic lunch enjoying the lovely sunny day. Pretty fantastic way to celebrate a birthday.

  4. I stop by here from time to time, but never comment. I just wanted to say 1) happy belated, I turned 37 a few months ago and also frequently feel like a pretend grown-up 2) I think your post baby body looks great in that outfit--shirt button issues (that aren't as noticeable to us as they are to you) and all, and 3) I have those polka dot pants from J.Crew and never even thought about pairing them with a top that color blue, its a good look.

  5. I love your posts! Something I would love for you to explore is hosiery. Do you or don't you? What do you wear with dresses in the winter when black hose/tights will not work. Say you're wearing taupe or camel? What do to? I had to re-think my outfit today because of this and wound up wearing black hose with a camel skirt and black booties rather than the leopard print booties that I would have preferred. Black was too dark with the leopard print booties and the gray was too off. HELP!!

    1. I have this same exact question as I just moved to the tundra this year and want to wear more skirts and dresses with boots/booties.

    2. I'll have to think about it. Since I live in Florida - I don't usually have to content with hosiery/tights very often. But once the temperature drops here - I will try to put together a post!

  6. I love the outfit! Not sure I could do a pattern on the bottom but I love it! There is hope for your chest... My chest shrunk a while size after kid 2 stopped nursing! :-)

  8. I was never able to fit into any of my button down shirts after my first child, even though I got back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. Like you write, I experienced pulling or gaping across the chest, or the shirts seemed to ride up. All of this was not a good look! I was baffled at the time and mentioned it to my GYN who told me it was possible by rib cage had spread to accommodate the little bundle, and it doesn't go back, according to her :( So, it was bittersweet. I was happy to get an answer to something that was bothering me, but a lot of tops went into the donation pile.

    1. I'm definitely worried that is what happened to me too. But I'm going to hold on to hope until I'm done nursing and have lost these last 10 lbs... but it might just be the case I'm going to get to do a lot of top shopping in a few months!

  9. The same thing happened with my ribcage. Juut unlucky I guess. I also was able to get back to pre baby weight but it all moved around giving me wider hips and a chest.

  10. Happy Belated Birthday!!!!
I love that bold blue with that skirt. I would probably never get those print pants but the skirt is lovely.

You look great. Even if "shrinking down" has been slow, you look like you have made much progress :) The gaping of the blouse is barely noticeable, but since you are aware maybe a safety pin would help?

    1. Thank so much for the suggestion! On some of my nicer work button ups pre-baby I had a snap sewn in so I would never have to worry about gaping at work. But for now - I'm going to give myself a few more months to see what size I settle in at before I hit the tailor.
