outfit post: jean jacket, white t-shirt, striped jersey pencil skirt, brown wedges

Inspiration - Kristin Cavallari

After wearing the striped skirt with the navy blouse & pumps to work - I changed parts of the outfit that evening to attend a Jr. League meeting. On top I swapped into a t-shirt & jean jacket and on my feet I switched the shoes to my comfortable brown wedges.

I often get asked about wardrobe basics and starting a work wardrobe. I'm going to work on a One Suitcase (hopefully by end of the month) centered around starting a work wardrobe from scratch. But in the meantime I found a really cool site called Into Mind that has a great blog post that helps you diagnose why you don't have anything to wear in your closet. In the post you follow a little flowchart answering questions and you get to end points like, "You have no idea what's in your closet" or "You have no definition of your personal style" or "Your wardrobe does not reflect your lifestyle." And then based on your result there are links lower down to an array of posts on how to remedy your issue. Pretty nifty!

And since I'm linking to stuff - ShopStyle asked me to put together a spring link board so I took the items from my February shopping wishlist and picked out both super expensive and reasonably affordable versions of all the items. If you're interested - you can find the ShopStyle board here. (Although it looks like stores have changed their inventory since I put that together a month ago so some of the items I picked are missing.)

  2. I've just discovered your blog too! I love it. Do you have a blog post on what you do to stay so lean. I've been having fun looking back at your old blog posts and you seem to have lost weight. What is your secret. Jen

    1. I don't have a blog post on my workout/diet. For me it's a pretty boring equation - if I eat healthy whole foods, exercise and pay attention to portions then my weight goes down but if I eat lots of cheesy fried (delicious) food, don't exercise and overeat then my weight goes up.

About two years ago I spent 7 months flying back & forth from Brazil for work. I LOVED the food there and ate too much. I put on some extra pounds during that time and I think that's probably around where my pictures look heavier. :)

    1. Think it'll be a great travel skirt because you can bunch it up and not worry about wrinkles!

  5. Thank you for wearing this skirt again. When I saw it the other day, I fell in love, but hesitant to go ahead and purchase, for I felt as though I'd been stuck wearing it similarly to how you styled it. This really helps! You should incorporate this for a "One Suitcase: Summer 2014!" if you can! Love it!
