outfit post: coral blazer, white tank, bootcut trouser jeans, brown peeptoed pumps

Inspiration - Emmy Rossum

Thanks to my closet twin Paloma for suggesting the coral blazer at Sheinside! It just arrived (after some weird delays in China) and I love it. Bright and fun and polished. Perfect for looking put together in chilly office a/c this summer!

outfit post: mint dot tie-neck blouse, black ankle pant, pointed toe pump

Inspiration - Forever 21

This blouse was another F21 find. Sometimes I walk into that store and feel completely overwhelmed. So much stuff. Such weird fits. Mostly not my age group. But in the times that I find that I have the energy for hunting around the overflowing racks and to deal with trying on a pile of 95% terribly fitting clothes - there are some cute & cheap items to be found.

I typically have the most luck with the crepe/polyester, slightly loose fitting, impossible to wrinkle tops. They're great for cheap, colorful, trendier wardrobe additions to nicer basics like slacks and pencil skirts. They don't always last but by time time they fall apart the color/trend is probably over anyway... :)

outfit post: black maxi, brown sandals, sunburst pendant

Inspiration - Calvin Klein

Last week was a whirlwind of work and obligations and just stuff so by the weekend I was beat - lots of naps & netflix. (Um, hello House of Cards.) This dress feels like pajamas. Easy stretchy dress to throw on to run to the grocery store because the fridge is bare and still look cute? Yes please.

Need to get busy and double time take outfit posts this week to build up a queue because Friday I am traveling on VACATION for two weeks! Yippee! Finally a non-work trip! My husband and I have been talking about visiting Thailand for the seven years that we've known each other and we're finally doing it! Super excited! Now I just need to get some extra posts together so you guys will be entertained until I get back. :)

outfit post: hot pink dress, jean jacket, nude cutout flats

Inspiration - Pink Sole

There is a ton of pretty pale pink clothes in stores right now. And while I like pale pink - there is just something fun about wearing a bright punchy hot pink to say, "TGIF! I'm so happy it's warm, sunny and the work week is finally over! Yayyyyy weekend!"

outfit post: white lace shirt, mint cropped jeans, brown medallion sandals

Inspiration - Candice Swanepoel

Wore this outfit yesterday after work to help sort donated children's books for a Jr. League charity project. Needed something easy and comfortable and this outfit fit the bill. Yay for warm weather finally arriving!

Happy hump day!

Ton of work? Lack of sleep? Not feeling especially creative after a 5:30 am wake up? Tie-neck blouse to the rescue! Love 'em love 'em love 'em.

outfit post: teal sweater, black ankle pants, black wedges

Inspiration - Katherine Heigl

I wish my sweater had a higher neckline like the inspiration photo. The scoop neck is just the wrong depth so that my necklace kept trying to fall inside my shirt all day. Sooo annoying. Longer necklace choice in the future.

outfit post: coral/peach crepe blouse, striped skirt, wedges

Inspiration - Happily Grey

Easy cute weekend outfit. Only thing I'd change are my wedges. I like how the inspiration photo's shoes match the color of the skirt stripes. It makes the outfit feel more coordinated while I feel like mine is a little desperate with the coral then navy then tan/brown. But overall, since I don't own similar enough shoes, I was still happy wearing my version. :)

outfit post: black & white patterned crepe shift dress, black flats, teal clutch

Inspiration - Target

I went ahead and purchased the clutch I mentioned in my last shopping post. I was really excited to upgrade my 'going out' bag. I picked the fun teal color and anxiously waited for it to arrive. Once it came and I had it in hand I was a little surprised by how big it was. I then realized I didn't look at the measurements (rookie internet buying mistake!) before I bought it.

I decided to embrace the larger-then-expected size (yay room for more stuff) and bring it out to dinner with my hubby and extended visiting family. Soon as my husband (who doesn't often have much of an opinion on my clothing/bags/shoes) saw the bag - he asks,

"What IS that?"
Umm new cute envelope clutch?
"It's so big! Are you planning on bringing some contracts to dinner? Hahahahaha!"

And then for the rest of the night it was, "Hey I need to mail some documents - anyone have a giant envelope I can use?" He thought it was hilarious. Sooo, while I still like it enough to keep it, lesson learned - pay more attention to product details before making internet purchases!

outfit post: floral print tie-neck blouse, burgundy cardigan, tan work pants

Inspiration - What Not To Wear

I just browsed back through my outfit archives and I was really surprised to see that I've only posted two other outfits with this blouse. It's one of my favorite go-to no brainer tops that I wear to work all the time. Maybe it's the fact I wear it so much that I just assumed there were already a dozen posts with it and you'd be bored seeing it again? Who knows what my brain was up to... not me. Anywho - now that I realize my mistake - I'll try to show some of the other ways I wear it in the upcoming weeks. :)

outfit post: lilac pleated keyhole blouse, black suit pants, white belt, black pumps

Inspiration - Express

I found this blouse at Express (**update just saw it's 40% right now!) and I am in love. I am always on the lookout for easy work appropriate tops. When I first saw the shirt on the hanger I was a little concerned that the keyhole would show too much cleavage and ruin the suitability for the office. But I tried it on and found that the cutout is high enough that, even if you are larger chested like me, it's still conservative. And it's the kind of fabric that doesn't wrinkle very easily. Score.

The only issue I had was deciding which of the seven colors to buy. I finally went with lilac because I don't own many purple toned tops. And now that I have the blouse home and find myself wanting to wear it everyday - I am considering going back to get another color. :)

outfit post: floral top, purple cropped pants, cutout flats

Inspiration - H&M

I stopped by Old Navy over the weekend and saw some really pretty floral tanks - they remind me so much of this shirt I got a few years ago from Loft. I have worn this shirt so many times - just having all the colors in the floral allows for lots of cardigan matching or in this case coordination with colored pants. Love.

outfit post: black shirt dress, pointed toe black pumps

Inspiration - ideeli.com

I found this dress on the super sale rack at Loft a few years ago. It was one of those spur of the moment grabs on my way to the dressing room and I ended up loving the fit. I like it a lot but I get confused with when to wear it. Because of the weight of the fabric and the fact it's sleeveless - I feel like it should be a spring/summer dress. But the black color makes it feel more fall/winter. I guess I just need to embrace my dark side for warm weather!

Inspiration - Nine-Thirty to Five

Last day of "Inspired by Nine-Thirty to Five" week! (See all posts inspired by them here.)

I want to send out a huge thank you to Paloma & Karen for letting me use their blog as inspiration this week! It was so much fun recreating the outfits and seeing combinations in my closet I didn't realize were already there! Also nice to know that us dorky Engineer-types can dress similarly to the cool kid Lawyers. :) Thank you so much!!

I always wear a suit on the first day I go onsite for client configuration workshops. The suit is the easy part but I'm always looking for a good top to wear underneath. I feel like while classic button down looks great - I end up adjusting them under a suit jacket all day. So a collarless alternative is always a great find. I really like the burgundy with the black. It's a I mean business look. :)
