Inspiration - J.Jill
Outfit fail. This is an example of an outfit that I thought was okay when I was wearing it but looking back at this photo I don't think it worked out very well. I thought I'd still share it with you to show why I'm not in love with it.
First problem - fit of the pants. I found these pants on sale online at Gap (printed pants were on my last shopping wishlist) for super triple discount down to $12. I bought them without trying them on because I'd seen them on other (much skinnier) bloggers. The fact they are called "ultra skinny" should have been a tip off that they might not work for my hourglass shaped figure. While they do fit through the hips they unfortunately gap/bunch at both the waist and crotch and then narrow down to where they are weirdly tight in the knees/calves. Um. Not awesome.
Second problem - the colors in this outfit. I love the mix of colors in the inspiration photo. All the pieces have the different tones of the same base beige color and look lovely and complimentary together. My outfit looks like a mess. Peachy/nude blouse (warm tone), charcoal grey sweater (cool - black tone) and black/navy/white patterned pants (cool - blue tone). Maybe if I'd had a crisp white blouse and black cardigan it would have been better?
Ehhh. Maaaaaybe I'll take these pants to a tailor? It might not be worth the time & cost of tailoring to sorta convince myself to like a pair of pants. It may be better just finding another patterned pair of pants I really love. In which case I'll just donate these to my very tall & skinny little sister. :)

Hi! I love your blog. I wanted to let you know that the links you provided under "bottoms" all link to sweaters.
ReplyDeleteWhoopsie. Fixed it. Thanks!!
DeleteThose pants are super cute, but if you dislike them that much, I'd just move on and find another pair. At least you got them really cheap! I love that you show an outfit fail too; not every outfit is perfect! (more than I'd like to admit, haha)
ReplyDeleteThanks! We all have those days where you think you did fine getting dressed only to see yourself at the end of the day (or in a photo) and go... uhhh what was I thinking this morning? :)
DeleteHonestly, I think if you swapped the peach top for a white one, it would have been a win.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYou know, I bought a very similar pair of red pants from the Gap two years ago and they fit great at first but after one washing they did the exact same thing you described! Bunching in the crotch and really tight on my calves. I kept wearing them until I replaced them with a pair from The Limited and now they are in my donation pile. Something about Gap pants just doesn't always work for those of us with athletic lower bodies!
ReplyDeleteSuch a weird fit! Sigh - the risks & rewards of internet shopping! :)
DeleteIt's so insightful to examine an outfit that didn't work (thanks for posting it! so many people wouldn't). I think you are right about the tones - a white shirt probably fixes everything!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Glad you found it useful! I'll definitely try with a white shirt to see if that fixes the color issue - but I am also going to keep my eye out for a different pair of pants that fit me better. :)
Deletei really like these pants - if you decide to sell them... ;-)
ReplyDeleteAlready donated them to my sis. :/
