outfit post: grey cloche hat, navy lady day coat, grey plaid scarf, black riding boots

Inspiration - Blair Waldorf

As I started packing for Minnesota I realized I was lacking some basic winter gear - hat and gloves.  Back to the mall again for second weekend in a row. Found cute grey cloche hat (the angle of this picture it almost looks like a fedora but it's more bucket shaped), grey plaid scarf and gloves on super sale at Dillard's. Score.

I am going to queue up some posts for this week while I'm traveling because my schedule can be really unpredictable when I'm onsite with clients. But I will post what I packed for super cold weather work outfits next week when I get back.

(Congrats to the 3 winners of the gift card giveaway! I will email you today to let you know you won & get your addresses!)

  3. Great look. As a Minnesotan I can say when it gets to single digits, the cute factor goes out the window. It's all about staying warm. And the hardy Minnesotans will have you believing, "this is nothing," but we're really asking ourselves why we live here. Hope you have a good trip. I'm looking forward to seeing what you packed.

  7. As a Minnesotan, very much looking forward to seeing what outfits you come up with. And if you want any local tips (...and you'll be in the twin cities), please feel free to drop me a line.

    1. Thanks! Hope you like the outfits. Although, what I wore only had to keep me warm for a few minutes to and from the car. Not the ongoing extended cold real residents of MN have to deal with. Kudos to you for surviving winter every year!! :)

  8. I can't wait for your one suitcase ski trip as I am going skiing in Colorado in a month. Packing lite is hard when most of your clothes are fluffya nd I always end up packing way too much stuff!

    1. Cold weather is definitely the hardest to pack light. The clothing takes up so much more space! I hope you have a super fun ski trip!

  9. I would suggest wearing a fleece under your jacket, tights under your jeans, ear headband under your hat, and a pair of heavy mittens over those cute gloves!

    1. Thanks for the tips! I alternated with a headband under the hat and a warmer ear-covering knit hat and that definitely was a great idea! And it was fleece tights all day every day!! Brr!

    1. Thanks! I would keep checking back. I bought my first one in 2001 at a consignment shop and J.Crew has carried it every year since. They seem to alternate different colors each year but usually have the basic navy & black regardless. If you really want this one - I would just check back in a few months. (But if you can - wait for the big sales - mine was $150 which is so much better then $365)

  11. I'm in love with that coat! what size do you wear? I'm overseas so there's no J crew here but I'm roughly your size :)

    1. I bought a size 10 so that I could wear bulky sweaters underneath. :)
