Inspiration - Bake Glue & Trend
Question for any fellow bloggers out there - what do you do about links in old posts to clothes & stores & such that die over time? I get quite a bit of email (and feedback on the survey) saying that someone tried a link from a year-old post and it was no longer good... I seem to figure out an easy way to maintain such a deep archive of information... any suggestions?

I LOVE this dress and every outfit you post with it (I've been following you for years now). But this is one of the few times that I don't like any of the similar options you give. Can you tell us where the polka dot dress you're wearing is from? Thank you for what you do!! I use this blog every day and today I'm wearing your post with the white Old Navy blouse, jean jacket, black leggings and scarf. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's from Old Navy, I think last spring (?). I have the same one!
DeleteThanks so much!
DeleteYep, it's from Old Navy around a year or so ago? I was having a lot of problems finding polka-dot dresses with longer sleeves options.
Here are all the options I found:
Polka-Dot Dresses
I had that polka dot dress and it finally died. I was soooo sad. I found a similarly shaped one - not polka dots in the clearance section this past weekend.

It doesn't have the self belt that the previous model did, and it has full sleeves, but the fit is just as flattering. I got a large (like I did with the previous model), but I think I should have gotten a medium. I'm tempted to buy another one to have on hold because it is just so amazing!
Thanks for the link!
DeleteI pretty much only post links from one store and it would be a full-time, day-to-day job to check all the links and update them as the store inventory changes. I just don't think it's realistic or possible (nor would I even want to attempt such a mind-numbing task!). If it's a frequent complaint maybe some sort of disclaimer somewhere saying, "Links to each product are in-stock at the time my post goes live unless otherwise stated, but unfortunately I cannot guarantee inventory so my apologies if an item becomes unavailable." I don't really know what else you can do, but I'll be interested to see if anyone else posts a suggestion!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I agree. I think maybe I'll just refresh the one suitcase ones- maybe once a year- because people seem to still read those in history the most...
DeleteI like your version much more than the inspiration! Julie
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI don't know that you can really keep up with the links indefinitely. I think you're doing plenty by posting current links at the time of your posting. I'm sure some folks will still contact you, but a quick internet search is probably all they will need to find an item that would fit the bill. At least most of the time.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I don't have any idea of anything else I could do. :) Thanks for the feedback.
DeleteI have that same dress!! I like how you wore it with black tights. Every time I wear it I wear it with navy tights and brown boots. I am going to have to try black tights next time!
ReplyDeleteYay! Dress twins! :)
DeleteHonestly, why would anyone even bother writing about a link that doesn't work if it's from a very old post? Doesn't common sense kick in and make them realize that, hey, it's an old post so the item is probably out of stock or discontinued? Duh!
ReplyDeleteIf you were to try to keep up with all the links you've ever posted...well that's just crazy and unreasonable. But if you delete the links you'll inevitably get comments/emails telling you there's no link. Ha!
Yeah... thanks for the feedback! Maybe I'll just try to occasionally refresh the one suitcase ones because those seem to get the most archive traffic. :)
