outfit post: black dress, wide brown belt, riding boots

Hmm. I felt really cute wearing this outfit on Friday to get started on finish my Christmas shopping. The weather was nice - cool but not cold - and so I thought the boots & dress combo was great. Really like the mixing of brown with black.

But looking at this photo now, I'm not loving how short this dress gets when it's belted. I didn't feel like I showed anyone my underwear while I was wearing it but now I'm definitely questioning that certainty. Oh well, if I did, you win some, you flash some. :/

  1. I don't think it looks too short at all. I wouldn't have noticed from the pic if you hadn't mentioned it. I like it!

  2. I wear a pair of thin spandex shorts under my skirts most of the time. That way I don't have to worry about flashing people, And it helps the inevitable thigh rub I got going on!

    1. I do the exact same thing! Besides flash proofing your dress/skirt - helps if you eat too much dinner too! :)

  3. It looks like you threaded the belt through the belt loops on the dress. Maybe if you just put the belt over the loops instead it won't ride so high. It looks like the loop in the photo is pulling the dress up since the belt is wide. Still a very cute outfit!

    1. I put a hair-tie on the belt to try to keep the end from flopping around - looks like a belt-loop - need to rethink my belt end fastening method!

  4. love this look!

i agree with the above poster ... i think because you put the belt through the loop instead of allowing it to lay flat it hiked up the dress a bit. i think if you switch it out next time you'll be happy. but like i said, love this look! i've seen the original picture for a long time and have wanted to recreate it for the longest time.

  6. Okay, I just want to say that I'm LOVING how well your blog is organized! Your labels are magnificent...it makes your blog not only an inspiration but a great reference. I literally scrolled through your cropped-pants label to get ideas for my own black pair. Keep it up!

  8. I think you meant to title this post "outfit post: black dress, wide brown BELT, riding boots."

To the other posters, the belt isn't through any loops. I believe it is a hair tie or something similar holding the end of the belt down.

  9. I think if you were not wearing boots, it might be too short. But the boots contrast it so its ok. I have always liked that inspiration photo!
