outfit post: mint santa fe tee, skinny jeans, ankle boots

Inspiration - CabiOnline

I've been really hit or miss in outfits attempts with these ankle boots. I keep loving them on other people (hello Rachel Bilson! She always looks so adorable in them.) but I personally always feel sort of off when I wear them. I think the previous outfit attempts with the boyfriend jeans and the midi skirt both looked pretty bad (see links below) and I thought it might be that I needed to have a more fitted bottom to contrast with the width of the boot. So for this outfit I stuck to skinny jeans and a simple shirt.

And while I like the idea of this outfit, I don't know if the jeans are too tight or I'm just not used to emphasizing my legs so much, but something is preventing from loving this outfit. Maybe I'm just not an ankle boots kinda gal?

  1. I'm with you about the ankle boots. I like them in theory but I don't like them on me. Something about a boot that stops at my ankle is off.

  2. I think your boots need to be a little lower and with less embellishment to work with the other looks. I think your jeans look great though! Try them with some flats.

  3. I really love this tee! And I think that the ankle boots look better here with the skinny jeans.

  4. I feel ya on the ankle boots, I really want a pair but every time I try one on they just look weird. I really liked your ankle boot looks with the dresses though, they looked great. I like them here, too.

  5. I think this outfit looks great on you! I feel the same way sometimes about my thighs when I'm wearing certain things, but you look awesome!

  6. I don't like ankle boots on anyone. They look too chunky and they cut the leg off at the ankle (which visually shortens the leg). Plus, I wear a size 9, so I don't need my foot to look any bigger than it already does. :)

    1. I wear 10's so I know what you mean about making sure shoes don't turn your feet into giant boats. :)

  7. I think the jeans are great & hope you keep them in your rotation. I agree with Cathy, they'd work great with flats or riding boots in the cooler months.

Not sold on the ankle boots....but there are lots of positives to this outfit.

    1. Thanks!

I wore them a ton with riding boots & wellies in this One Suitcase post: http://outfitposts.blogspot.com/2013/02/one-suitcase-winter-vacation-capsule.html

  10. Not an ankle boot person either. A co-worker wears them with skinnies and always looks super cute, but I just feel awkward in them.

  11. If you are having difficulty figuring out what works with the boots, maybe it's the boots. Just saying....

    1. Yep. I keep thinking I can figure it out. But at some point - if I can't find a way to love them - I'll just need to give them up...

  12. Hi there:) I think you would have more success and confidence in a pair of ankle boots that are a tad shorter and less chunky. Your boots are cute for sure but the inspiration outfits pics seem to have that same type of style. Shorter and a little more form fitting. Don't give up on your looks with ankle boots. Try another style:)

    1. I think you're right. I donated this pair to my much taller 'little' sister. :)

  13. I'm glad you're not giving up. I just think you need a different style of ankle boots. I'm excited to see what you come up with:)
