outfit post: navy heart dress, rust cardigan, brown riding boots

Inspiration - Mix and Match Fashion

North Florida's 'cold' weather can have such a temperature range in a 24 hour period. It will be in the low 30s when I get up in the morning and then the temperature will rise quickly with sun until it's in the high 70s by mid-afternoon. And then after sunset it will drop back down again. I have to remember to dress is layers to accommodate for the temperature swings. I appreciate the warming up during the day but yesterday I got so hot I ended up having to get rid of the tights and boots half-way through the day in favor of some flats. And then around sunset I was sitting outside at a pizza place for dinner and as soon as the sun went down it quickly became too cold and we had to move inside. I wished I had left the boots on!

Random confusion I had putting this outfit together is that I only own black tights and as I put them on with this dress I started to wonder if there is another neutral color that I should be pairing with outfits that have brown accessories? Brown tights seem like they'd be weird - like I was pretending I had super tan legs. And colors like green or something would be too much... was black the right choice?

Rust cardigan worn previously:
(I'm sort of obsessed with today's dress from Old Navy - it's on sale for $20. There are a bunch of colors available and I might have to go back and pick up another of the solid colored ones...)

  1. I definitely think the black works because they just sort of...disappear...and let the pattern in the dress shine. I love this one!

  2. I have a favorite pair of tights I got at the Gap years ago. They are light tan/dark beige with a cable pattern. They aren't a super-thick knit, though--more like very heavy, opaque nylons? Anyway, the pattern keeps it from looking like I'm trying to match my skin color, but they are my favorite neutral choice. Here's a link to something for a visual, but they're thicker. http://dazzlingdaniela.com/index.php/apparel/cable-knit-leggings-beige-tan.html

  3. I think the black works because the rust sweater and cognac belt tie the boots in. I think the brown would have made the "accessories" disappear.

  4. I think black looks great. I enjoy coloured tights, but when your dress already has a pattern, and you've got a contrasting cardi, I think black is good. Cute dress!

  7. I have this dress too (which I love)! Wish I would have thought to pari with tights/cardigan/boots for Florida's "cooler" weather!

  8. Love this outfit! I think the blue looks much better than the green - shades of cobalt and rusty brown or cognac are my favorite :D

  9. LOVE the outfit but...I really don't think the black tights work! Sorry, I think a dark brown would have been PERFECT but...for some reason I really don't like the black. If that is all you have, I don't think it killed the whole outfit, but if you have a brown/taupe color I think it would have really helped :)

  10. I would go for brown tights or just wear socks and leave the legs bare. Cute outfit! I like the dress.

  12. What other color of cardigan would go with this outfit? I want to keep everything else the same but can't find a rust cardigan that I like anywhere.... I'm so not good at this stuff! Love all your outfits! Thanks

  13. I could also see it with white, green, navy or even black? Hope that's helpful!
